Hello there,
This little entry is designed for those who want to start reading BL series and would eventually like to move on to yaoi series. If you think you would like to read some manga about two males in love, but aren't quite ready for any of the graphic stuff yet, this was made for you! I understand that not everyone wants to read yaoi quite yet, so let's take it slow, shall we?
Hey! Let's start with some fan service before we get into BL!
Ookiku Furikabutte (Big Windup!): This series has some hints between the the pitcher and the catcher who play in the same baseball team. It's a nice way to start thinking about how you would like to see more romance between the two lead characters. Nothing really happens, but it's a cute series and is a nice way to start off. Even if you don't like baseball, the lovable characters draw you into the show.
Demon Diary: This is manhwa which means it is Korean and not Japanese. It's about a young boy who becomes a demon lord; although he is very unfit for the position, Eclipse does his best to help him along the way. It's a nice read for comedy lovers.
Silver Diamond: The fan service here is a lot more obvious. One of the lead characters, Chisuga, proclaims his feelings in many instances but nothing really happens. It's a cute series with a talking snake and heroes that want to save a world from dying. If you want some action and hinted love, this is for you.
Let's take it slowly now!
Legal Drug: This is 16+ and was never completed, but it can be read as only three volumes. This is about a boy named Kazuhaya who is able to see visions when he touches things. He ends up staying at a pharmacy and does odd jobs which involve the use of his power. All those working at the store have an ability as well.
Ice Cold Demon's Tale: Warning: This series has not been licensed. This is about a young man who frees a demon from his imprisonment. The demon was considered one of the most fearsome beings, but he became taken with the young, naive man and travels with him. The young man is too trusting and gets into trouble... especially with the demon who accompanies him.
Tomcats [Volume One only]: None of the other volumes have been released yet, so if in the future Volume Two is released, don't pick it up without the "okay"! This volume is unjustly rated 16+, however I believe this is because the later volumes have heavier content. Oh well, if that is so this adorable series about two humans who move into a town full of kitties, can be read as a stand alone volume. It has barely any BL content, so it's a nice thing to move onto after fan service.
Only the Ring Finger Knows: This is also unjustly rated 16+. It does have kissing scenes, but hardly anything that can justify it having the same rating as something like Dear Myself. This is a very cute stand alone volume with more romance elements. You follow Wataru as he tries to figure out his feelings for his mean sempai.
La Esperanza (La Esperança): A nice 13+ BL with an actual plot. It can get a bit dramatic, but it's pretty good. The story is set in a boy's school and follows a boy named Georges who tries to be the prefect student.
Liberty Liberty: When Yaichi falls onto a trash heap dead drunk, he expects to be thrown out. But then a man comes to his rescue, and Yaichi breaks his video camera. He feels so bad about it he decides to work off the debt.
Lost Boys: One evening, a boy named "Air" suddenly appears at Mizuki's window, forcibly transporting him to Neverland...
From Up Above: This is 16+ but the worst it has is a three panel topless kissing scene. You know something is up, but it shows nothing at all. It is about a boy who is the reincarnation of an ancient priestess. He is visited by the thunder god Kazuchi who is bounded to him. Unfortunately, it only has one volume.
Menkui: Kotori is often called a menkui because he loves all things that are beautiful. When a beautiful classmate begins to follow him, Kotori believes it is because he wants to meet his gorgeous older brother. However, the one Akaiwa is really interested in is he!
