Chapter Eight
I looked at him, surprised. Now I was totally confused. “What do you mean, “more of us”?” I asked before he suddenly dragged me down the hallway, towards the stairs by my wrist. I struggled a bit, not quite sure if I wanted to leave the house or not. My parents could be downstairs, then I’ll be in deep trouble. Of course, Jay didn’t answer my question. In the little known facts I had about him, I was sure of two things. One, he liked confusing me. Two, he sure liked following me. We descended down the stairs, and as we did, I heard my mother humming in the kitchen. I froze in my place. Jay stopped, and looked up at me from three stairs down. “What?” he asked. I stared at him in disbelief. If my mother saw me going towards the door, she’d have a fit, and give me a huge lecture, not to mention she’d ask how Jay got in here. I wasn’t sure myself how he got into my house, but I’m sure my mother wouldn’t believe him as easily as I would. “If my mother see’s me, she’ll-” “She won’t see you.” Jay interrupted me confidently. I looked at him nervously, then nodded. He started leading me downstairs again. When we reached the bottom step, I automatically looked to my left, and noticed my mothers back was turned away from me, but if she turned around, she would see me by the front door. I tensed a bit, but then remembered that Jay had said that she wouldn’t see me. I turned to Jay, who was just staring at the door, which was about a meter in front of us. I tapped him on the shoulder. He didn’t respond. “Jay, are we going to go or what?” I whispered impatiently. He didn’t answer. I sighed, irritated. He lead me all the way down here, and told me my mother wasn’t going to see me, just so he could stare at the door. He was still holding onto my wrist. I tried to free myself, but his grip only tightened. “If I let you go, you’ll be seen.” he said in a normal, and calm tone. I quit struggling, and just sat on the step. I only had sat down for not even 10 seconds before he pulled me up, and smiled at me. “Do you trust me?” he asked. I stared at him for a moment, then nodded slightly. Of course I trusted him to walk out my front door, but my thoughts turned wild when he put his arm around my waist, and picked me up so my feet were off the ground, and we literally ran right into the front door. I gasped, and hid my face in the dip of Jays neck. At that moment, I felt a little woozy, and weird. I wanted to see what Jay had done to my door, but then again, maybe I didn’t want to see, so I held my position. My arms were wrapped around his strong shoulders, and my face was still buried. My black wings covered my body like a shield. I felt a light squeeze on my waist. “You can let go now, we’re outside.” Jay reassured me, amusement filled his voice. I felt him put me down gently, and I let go of him quickly. Did I hear him correctly? We’re outside? I opened my eyes, and I gasped. We definitely were outside. The sky this morning was still grey, since it was around 5 in the morning. I looked up at Jay, confused. “How did you do that?” I asked. Jay looked down at me, and smiled. “Do what?” “How did you, uh,” I looked back at my door. It was completely unharmed. “Get through my door without opening it, or busting it down?” Jay shrugged. “I can go through anything without touching it, or breaking it. Its what I do.” I thought for a moment. “Can I do something like that?” I wondered. Jays blue eyes burned into mine, as if I had said the wrong thing. I quieted then, and turned to a different subject. “Where are the others?” “We have to walk a ways.” “Why?” I asked. Why couldn’t they just meet us here? “So your parents don’t think they’re going crazy when they see three other people with wings outside your front yard.” he said, laughing, but I knew he was being serious, to an extent. Yes, I would agree that my parents would get freaked out if they saw others like me outside. Jay started walking down the road to where the forest started. I followed reluctantly. I noticed how Jay was quite a bit taller than me, around 6 feet. I also remembered that I barely knew Jay. I met him yesterday, and already I was following him into the forest. He might have been lying about the three others just to get me alone so he could kill me. I shuddered at the thought. “So how old exactly are you Jay?” I asked. Obviously I needed to ask questions so I could know him better. I heard Jay chuckle. “I’m 16, yourself?” “15 in a week.” I said quietly. He was almost a year and a half older than I was. Jay smiled. I decided to ask another question. “Do you have any siblings?” Jay shook his head. “None of us do. We are all born with no brothers or sisters. If that happened, it would kill our parents.” “Why?” I asked. I thought that it was kind of strange, but there must be a good explanation to why we don’t have siblings. “We are too strong for humans.” he replied simply. Well, that wasn’t what I wanted to hear. I actually didn’t know what I wanted to hear, but I wasn’t expecting that to be the answer. “What about your parents?” I asked. I saw Jay’s eyes flicker with something I couldn’t put to words. I decided to press on. “I’m sure they would be worried that you spend your nights watching-“ ”They’re dead.” he said. I stopped in my tracks. I knew I shouldn’t have asked. I felt guilty now, for bringing up his parents like that. Jay stopped, and looked back at me. His eyes were pained. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to-“ ”You didn’t know.” he said quietly. I nodded. “Come on, we’re almost there.” he said with more enthusiasm, and we started walking again. I noticed that the tree’s completely covered up the sky, and it was dark, and musty in the forest. Jay turned off the road, and headed straight into the tree’s. I followed, and noticed that the tree’s started to turn into an opening. Jay stopped for a final time, and I stopped beside him. I looked ahead of me, and stared in utter surprise. Three different beings stood before me. One was a girl about my age, who had long reddish orange hair, and had beautiful white wings. The guy next to her, or I should say clinging to her, looked to be around Jays height and age, and had black hair, with black wings. Like me, I thought. Then the smallest one, had very long brown hair, and white wings. The orange haired girl stepped forward, and smiled warmly. “Hello, Angel. I’m Zoey, this is Zack,” she gestured to the black winged guy. He smiled. I nodded to him. “And this is Wild Talon.” Zoey said, concluding the introductions. The girl named Wild Talon was staring at the ground, not bothering to look up. “Hello.” I said shyly. Jay looked down at me, as if he was expecting me to say something different, something obvious. I didn't get what he was staring at me for, but it made me a little edgy. “You haven’t seen anyone other than him have you?” Zack asked. I noticed how he referred to Jay as “him”. I shook my head. Zack nodded in understanding. “So I guess you have no idea about the Naturelles then, right?” I stared at him in disbelief. That word had appeared in my dream the night before I met Jay.
" No, I haven't, but I've dreamt about it." I replied. They all stared at me then, even Wild Talon. I had a feeling that dreaming about stuff like this wasn't a very good thing.
