She stood high above the world, taking in the wonderous sights from her vantage. She could see it all. Lakes, rivers, trees, birds, animals, flowers. She saw everything.
Except herself.
They always had good things to say about her. "Oh, she's such a nice girl." "Oh, she's so smart." "I wish I was as dedicated and determined as her." "How kind and caring she is."
But they never saw. They never saw the pain hidden behind the blood stained mask. They never saw the anguish in her chocolate brown eyes. Nobody noticed.
Then again, nobody cared.
Why should they have? Would it haved mattered? Did they think that their kind words brought joy to her life? Because they didn't. All they brought was even more grief.
She knew she was in the wrong. She knew she didn't belong. So why couldn't she find her path? People always said she was full of water, able to carve her way through anything, and survive even the toughest odds. However, she evaporated. She got too hot, and she lost it all.
She lost her place. She lost her way. She dang near lost her mind.
No one noticed what was really going on. They didn't care for her expressive need to flee. They didn't care that her smiles began to look fake. They didn't care that she was only as happy as she was pretending.
Not even her best friend noticed when it all started, when she began that slow descent of self-inflicted pain and suffering. But they were separated, so how was her friend to know? She never said anything about it.
In fact, she rarely said anything at all.
She dwindled. And still nobody noticed. She grew thin and wan. Her hair lost it's sheekness. Her grades slipped. She spun out of control. Finally her parents noticed.
But it was too late. She was already too far gone to turn back now. What was started had to be finshed. There was no other way. So she left. No one noticed. Not, at least, at first.
By the time they did, however, she was already high above the world. She was on top of it all, and ready to fall.
And still, nobody heard her silent screams on the way down.
