So...that's it? So decided to try out the lottery and gave up 8 tickets for 800g. I log on Gaia last night and lo and behold! I won the friggin Lottery! 3,158 GOLD! Well, it is better than nothing. I made a 2300 gold profit out of that. Nothing better than free gold.
