I thought I knew what love was. When I got my first dog, got my first car, got my first kiss. I was convinced that love can be found so easily in material things and superficial people that don't ever stay. They told me love hurts, love deludes, love is enough to get us through, and they lied.
I looked for love in all the wrong places, and I was dull enough to think it true. I fell into an abyss in which love's light ignores, and love abandoned me.
But here, now, I can see love. As radiant light calls my name and my beloved stands just within my reach, I remember love. Our children, our marriage, our love. I had thought love was destroying again as it ripped her from my arms, but now she calls. My love waits, she understands, she believes in me. She knew I would come, and I realize love was there all along. Love never dies.
