Almost 700k! eek

...ugh, my eyes are really tired. Last night, I was really lonely, so I ended up reading more than 60 chapters of manga online.... x_x;

Yeah, we didn't catch each other on then. Which manga was that?

D.Gray-man... I hate shonen manga like that... you just can't stop buying/reading it! scream

You should have seen me this one time after I bought the next volume of that series that I was on..... After a long day of being out (with Shizun, of course), I was lying on my bed and reading it. Then after I finished it, I slammed the book down ,grabbed my purse, and told my sister, "We're going out to get the next volume!!" scream

...well, the latest volume that came out had a really, really bad ending, so my sister couldn't stand it and went on Onemanga to read the rest. I really didn't want to do that for a long while (or so it seemed, LOL), but I just gave in. SIGH. Manga is like crack... just like one of my favorite "MANGA is my anti-drug" sigs (that I found when I was still in high school, lol)

I'm kinda tired of shonen manga. Female characters usually don't receive much attention, and most of them are... unlikeable (let's put it that way). (And that is important to me, because when I read/watch something, I'm looking for a female, not male character to identify with. Except the guy is someone like Haku from Naruto. Remember Haku?) Also, the plot points seem to be pretty similar in most of them. "Friendship is important." "You should work hard to achieve your goals." The characters develop in a very predictable manner. Most of them can be easily classified in certain character types. There's always an energetic, enthusiastic one and a cold and aloof one.

That's why I enjoyed Lucky Star so much. It really has no drama and no over-the-top plots and no one is being larger than life. No one has ridiculous superpowers. It's casual and relaxed and the characters are (mostly) likable.
Uhm... well, I guess back then, you should have just bought both volumes right away. How expensive is manga in Hawaii? It's not sold over here.

LOL. Well, the mottos of Shonen Jump are friendship, teamwork, and hard work, I think. Or, as one of the manga spoofs of shonen jump - "Shonen Junk" XP ROFL

Hmmm, but I see. Haha, yeah, I remember Haku. Shoot. I forgot what your comment said.

Oh! Well, manga is kinda expensive. It's $8.99 - $10.99 a pop, depending on who publishes it. It's usually $10 on average, though. Not sure how much that would be in your currency. It's kinda scary, though.... it's $10, so 10 volumes are $100 (plus tax). I look at my bookshelf full of manga and realize that I definitely have more than 10 volumes, and definitely more than one series that has more than 10 volumes of..... gonk

oh, also, if you really enjoyed those aspects of Lucky star, that probably means that you really enjoy the "slice of life" genre of anime/manga.

Oh, and you should try watching K-ON or Azumanga Daioh! They're sorta similar to Lucky star. For anime, you can watch them on Crunchyroll, I think, and for the manga versions, they should be on Onemanga.com 3nodding

Shonen Junk sounds about right to me now, even though I have to admit it's too harsh. There are some good stuff there.

Oops, that's a lot of money! gonk I know how you feel, though. But Konata would understand better than anyone. LOL

Yeah, I do like slice of life series. I saw Azumanga Daioh! described on tvtropes.org, and I don't think I'm ready for that right now, because it's kinda too similar to Lucky Star. I will focus on Fruits Basket right now, because I like diversity. Like in medieval compositions - one lively song followed by a sad song, then followed by a lively song again etc.
I haven't heard of K-ON before though. Or, I might have heard of it, but I don't know anything about it.

HAHA, yeah, it was pretty harsh of that manga artist to put that spoof of Shonen Jump in her manga, but... you gotta admit, it's pretty funny! Also, I agree... I enjoy reading Shonen Jump much more than Shoujo Beat. On average, I enjoy more Shonen type manga than shoujo, though it actually might be equal, now that I think about it.

OH, OH! Symbolism, I wanted to show you this, have you been to myanimelist.net?
It's a site where you can keep track of and rate anime and manga series, and also see what other people think of it and how they rated it.

Here's my profile! You can see my manga and anime lists, their statuses and rankings, etc.! Some people even critique/discuss each episode when they update their entries. I love this site, because I can be all OCD on the recording of my anime and manga! I may not seem like the type, but did you know that I once made a really detailed spreadsheet of all my bound and printed materials in my room? Haha, I felt like I was being a librarian for fun, which was awesome!

http://myanimelist.net/profile/zetsubou_panda

haha, how counter-current. Azumanga came first, so Lucky star seemed a bit boring to me because I saw that wayyyyy after Azumanga, which is indeed similar. But you should watch it! It's not as similar as you think.

...what the hell? Why are all my captchas freaking irritating? Is this a sign that I'm posting too much?... sweatdrop

I haven't heard of that site before, but I visited your profile there.
Hmm, you listed OHSHC as a manga that doesn't translate well into anime. But for people who haven't read the manga, anime is just fine. Because, when it ends, it doesn't feel gapingly incomplete. The voice actors are fine, and the theme music is very pleasing to the ear. Also, it's ridiculously baroquesque with all those roses, hearts, ornaments and profusion of red, gold and pink, it seems tacky. But... that is also a part of its charm. Because OHSHC is kinda a self-spoof.

Oh, about Fruits Basket, I forgot to add this to my comment on your profile (so hopefully, you'll be reading this after you have read your profile comments), it's sometimes hard to figure out the order in which the panels/squares/rectangles are meant to be read. The right-to-left thing confused me at first, but I got used to it pretty quickly. Probably because you posted such manga in your journals before.

ahh, well,... I don't really remember what I said, but don't worry, for the most part I think that Ouran is an excellent anime, one of my favorites of all time. I think that the music and animation is absolutely gorgeous and delicious (lol)!~ But... yeah, I really wish that there was more! TT^TT

ahh, yeah, even for me it seems sorta tricky at times, but... eh, it takes time, so don't worry. I just use my best common sense judgment when it comes to that. n_n

Yeah, I realized that when there's a speech bubble that's on the border of two panels, you should read those two panels one after another. The one where the sentence begins in should be read first.

LOL, maybe someday, I publish a manual or something.
