Character History
Axl doesn't have too much character history behind him. All we really know is that he was found as a young Reploid by Red, who took him under his wing. As the Red Alert organization came to power, Axl, with his incredible ability to use a "Copy Shot" to mimic both enemy appearances as well as weaponry, became a top leader in Red Alert's force. However, soon after he realized Red was just using him and his ability to power up his army, he decided to leave, an action that sparked the resulting war between Red Alert and the Maverick Hunters. Following his defection, he joined the Hunters on a conditional basis, and assisted Zero and X (once X returned to the fighting) in bringing down Red Alert and another of Sigma's plots.

Character Analysis
Axl seems to have a sense of justice inherent in him; he's able to recognize when the organization he belongs to is doing wrong. He looks up to both X and Zero, so it's logical his move would be to try and become a Maverick Hunter. He tries to do good, even though his brashness and youthful immaturity sometimes get in the way.

Name Analysis
In naming this character, it's clear that the affection for Guns'n'Roses again took form here. Similar to naming Axle the Red after the lead singer, Axl is undoubtedly named after the same reference.
