A note affixed to the refrigerator with a small spider magnet reads thusly:

That world is dead, the best parts have already left, or so the girl said. The nexus isn't a permanent thing. This world will flourish and then die in a similar manner, and then start all over again. It is not a fast process.

It would seem the shinigami and our kind were able to tap into Gaia because it is an extension of our own, in a manner. Like understands like. It is only from here that one of us can forge elsewhere, and then only if they know how.

Thankfully it is not a skill that comes easily or at all to some.
