CHAPTER 1: Bell’s voice panted and rasped as she tried to make it in time for her 5 oclock shift at Shoki’s resturaunt. She could hear her heart pounding in her ears. Her feet picked up faster and faster on the ground. People stared at her as she raced with all her might to make it in time for her shift. She was already late enough as it is, she knew she would have to convince Mr.Yamakawa to let her keep her job. Bell skidded around an upcoming corner, just one more block to go she thought to herself. Bell quickly thanked god as she came into view of the resturaunt’s sign. Panting and huffing she pushed open the glass door, the bell ringing to let the employees know there was a customer coming in the resturaunt. Bell glanced around to see only about 8 customers sitting at the tables, one of the men was reading a newspaper, he looked like he was reading on how the japans stocks were doing. He was wearing a pricey looking business suit, with a dark red tie neatly fitted beneath his coller, his black hair was neatly combed against his head, it looked as if he wanted his hair to be so neat, that he put a glob load of gel in his hair so that not a single piece of hair was out of place. Laying down beside him was a brown leather brief case, it looked as if he shined in religiously everyday, and probably inside it was his balance recorders, or maybe his attorney papers. He looked like your average successful business man, not a money care in the world. Unlike bell he probably went to some rich kid college, and actually has a good education. Unfortunatly for Bell as long as she remained 16 forever, there is no chance she will ever be able to go to college. Affording her highschool tuition was hard enough, she also has to pay for her own apartment rent, and pay for food, education materials, clothes, and the list is endless. Bell turned her head and walked over to the counter to sign in. Leaning over with her head bent down she quickly signed herself in on the clipboard. Bell nearly gave out a yelp as Rui gently tapped her on the back. “Geez Rui don’t give me a heart attack ok? What do you need?” Said Bell turning around to face the waiter. “Mr.Yamakawa wants to see you in his office…..right now.” Dread quickly filled Bell’s mind as she slowly progressed into Mr.Yamakawa’s office. Bell gently shut the door behind her as she made her way to a nearby chair. “No need to sit down Winter Bell, this will only take a minute.” Bell’s boss said. Mr.Yamakawa was a balding man, probably in his late 50’s, with a potbelly. He looked like your grouchy old neighbor that would always tell you to keep it down, because you music is to loud. But Mr.Yamakawa is one of the nicest people that Bell has ever known. Out of all the people that turned her down for a job, it was Mr.Yamakawa that saw something special in Bell. She was probably the luckiest girl in Osaka to get such a good paying job at 16. The best job you can get at 16 is working at Mcdonalds. The world seemed to move extra slow as Bell waited for a response from her Boss. “Bell…..Listen, this is hard on me, just as it’s going to be hard on you…..I’m going to have to let you go.” Yup there was those words that Bell was dreading. “At first, you were working really hard, and you were bringing a lot of customers in. But once the school year started up again you began coming in later and later for work. I know you’re a hard worker, but I can’t have you being late anymore….I’m sorry Bell.” He said. His eyes truelly looked sorry, almost painful at saying those horrible words. Bell knew there was no point in arguing. She nodded her head, and mournfully walked out of his office.
