Falling in love.
Can one describe it as a drug? An explosion of emotion in a little white pill; Seductive, addictive, Inspiring, electrifying, Unfocused and restless, Definitely Unhealthy In the long term.
Well, we could take a cynic’s viewpoint (Love, his favourite subject of scorn!) Selective blindness to another’s flaws, Deafness to the voice of rationale, The cloud of idiocy in which one dares revel. Energy, emotions, Time, resources, What a perfect waste.
And yet to some others, It is the trail marked with grief. The mocker may mock, the unfaithful jeer, But who can understand a lover’s sorrow? For love is a masochistic gamble -- Heads, you lose a dollar, Tails, you win a dime.
Fie for thought! Such negativity. Perhaps it’s sweeter than that; Gentle padding of soft cat’s paws, Fluttering wings of a fragile butterfly, Spray of a giggling brook on fresh dirt, All of nature Contained Inside your soul.
Maybe it is more majestic, Transcending all nobilities; A roar of victory above the din of battle, Thunder and howl, the fury of the ocean, An orchestral crescendo, rising into climax… Then STOP!... Drop, slowly Into, triumphant silence.
Or it could be but a secure place, Simple, mundane, everyday comfort. Relentless humming of a favourite tune, Rhythmic drip-drip-drip on unwashed dishes, The drop of dusk upon snuggled-up skins. Simple, Mundane, Everyday things.
I wonder why, We even bother, Trying to count the ways One can fall in love.
Ridiculous.
