Interveiw With Kuro-Pawed
Every month we feature an interview with one of our favorite artists here at Super Comix. In all our interviews we ask the standard questions, but of course all of the answers are different. This month I interview one of my most favorite artists: Sarah [Last Name]! She goes to S.E.C.T.A. high school, majoring as a graphic artist. You may know her on deviant-art as Kuro-pawed. Sarah is also however, the author of our latest comic Yttick’s Adventures!

Super Comix (SC): Hey Sarah, glad I could catch you finally. I hope you’ll enjoy our interview today.

Sarah (S): Er, yeah…Hi. I hope I don’t regret this.

SC: [laugh] Well Sarah, what is your inspiration for drawing?

S: Most of my artwork is inspired by everyday actions or arguments, laughter, just given emotions. Everybody has a face for every emotion. If you notice, everyone varies. This is why I love drawing people. Nature is another big inspiration though! Nature is beautiful. A lot of artists look at nature as an inspiration. You can just lay out a piece of paper and just draw. I remember one time I saw watching the nature channel and I saw a walrus leap out of water going “Rawwrrrggaarr!” [Laugh]

SC: Walrus! Oh how I love them so! Y’know, I’m told I look like one. Anyways onto the next question. Do you have any big influences for your art style?

S: The greatest influence in my style of art is from a mix of people. Mostly from my two very dear friends: Jelly and Alexis Howard.

SC: How long would you say you’ve drawing?

S: Ever since I can remember I’ve been drawing. Either on the walls or on myself! Haha!
SC: I get in trouble when I write on myself, let alone the walls. I sure hope you weren’t scolded. What brought you to start drawing Yttiks Adventures?

S: Well I had originally just draw Yttik. I wanted to explain and develop a story for him since I don’t even know much about him, and he’s my character! [laugh]

SC: Oh wow. I expect big things from this Yttick though, he seems fun. Ive seen your other characters and find them quite amazing. This leads to my next question. Out of all the characters you have, besides Yttik, which would you say resembles you the most? Explain them please?

S: Uhmm…[Laugh] I have a lot of characters. They all represent me a little. Whisper represents me the most. She acts like me. Always doing stupid things for fun! I hope this doesn’t make me look stupid. Just how I roll!

SC: [laugh] Alright, besides drawing, what else do you do for fun?

S: Lets see… I draw, I paint… I’d have to say most of my life is drawing. I like to run though. I usually go out to run for about three to four miles a day, by myself. I also practice Martial arts. I like to stay active!

SC: Whoa, got me scared now. I shouldn’t be messing with you much huh? Out of all your pieces, which would you say you love the most?

S: My most favorite? I don’t really have a favorite piece. I’d have to say its one of my most recent ones. My word art on in particular. I’m not sure who said it, I think Rob Thomas did actually, “Shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you’ll still land amongst the stars. “ basically it says that over and over but in different fonts and patterns. I love my realistic pencil sketches too though. Recently I drew a girl with long hair blowing bubbles. It was just something fun because it was with just pencils. My favorite thing about it was drawing the shoes though. [Laugh]

SC: Awesome, I’ll be sure and try to look at that later if I can! Have you met any famous artists?

S: Uh…Famous? Not so much, no. Not real famous ones at least. The closest I’ve been to meeting a real famous artist are ones on the internet.

SC: Hmm… Well, What is your favorite part about drawing?

S: Really? You are going to ask this? Hm…Drawing is just this big long process. The only time your happy is when you first start putting your image down. Then at the end, when it’s all together. Most may say drawing as a whole is great, but I find the middle of it all stressful.

SC: Well, where do you see yourself in five years?
S: Well in two years I’ll be out of high school. Ill probably be in an art studio in San Francisco, where I plan to attend the art institute there.

SC: Now to wrap it all up with one final question! Do you have any advice for any inspiring artists out there?

S: [Deep breath] Inspiring artists? If you haven’t already, get an anatomy book. It’s the basics for drawing. If you want to get anywhere, you should practice with it. Look at other artists, and better your work from there.

SC: Thanks again Sarah for the interview. I hope we can talk again soon!

S: Uh, I guess, sure.
