CHAPTER 1- EPISODE 1: It All Started at a Festival! Pt. 1

As they traveled, the setting sun painted the sky a fusion of pink, purple, and orange. There was a small city in the distance, and between the two travelers, the suggestion was made that they stop and rest for a while. The suggestion was transformed into a firm decision after a small discussion between them.

This duo consisted of a young man, Terick, and young woman, Kimisa. Terick was about eighteen years of age with black hair that reached just below his ears. His body was thin, yet muscular and defined. The boy’s eyes were the average dark brown, but were always focused and intense. At Terick’s side was a sword, a simple katana that got the job done.

His partner in crime, Kimisa, was of the same age. Her hair was dark brown and black, making it look just a dirty black which she kept straight and let it hang down mid-back. She had a petite build that brought out her curves and her exquisite eyes. These eyes were large, bright, and the color of honey which almost gave them a sparkle. About the girl was a bow and empty quiver.

Finally, the pair arrived in the town named something neither of them bothered to remember. Terick and Kimisa found and paid for a nice room at an inn which would serve as their base of operations for the next few days.

“So Terick?” Kimisa sighed anxiously as she sat on the edge of her bed.

“So Kimi,” Terick returned. At the time, he was counting the money they had left. He was sitting on his own bed at the time. “It’s not looking bad. Not looking great, either!” he mumbled straightening the money into an even pile. “Really, it depends on what we buy, if anything besides the essentials,” he said looking up at her.

“Then we need to earn some money quick! We do still need new bags, y’know!” Kimi reminded him. She knew Terick would agree, since he was the one to point this out not long ago. They were holding their belongings in bags (the term being used loosely) that Kimi had stitched together using torn up squares of cloth.

By the way, Kimisa preferred to be called by her nickname, Kimi. It wasn’t that she didn’t like her name. She loved it. Fact of the matter is that she’d been called ‘Kimi’ since she was a small child. To call her by her full name would be considered an insult, especially from someone like Terick. That is unless she allowed you to do so, which was rare.

“I factored that in Kimi! We should be able to buy at least one and still be able to enjoy two good meals,” Terick informed her. The answer seemed to satisfy Kimi as she delivered no response and she lay back on the bed. The two had eaten dinner when they got into town, and all that was left to do was wash away the day’s dirt. Kimi had chosen to go first, and she also decided to take a relaxing, soothing, hot bath.

When she finished, Terick went into the bathroom and instead took a shower, which by the way, was just as nice. They dressed for bed and planned to go shopping the next morning before Kimi let loose a yawn. “That’s enough for today. Good night Terick!” she said sleepily crawling under the sheets.

Terick chuckled and slipped under the covers as well, replying, “Night Kimi!” The two of them slept peacefully throughout the night and arose revitalized and refreshed. They ate breakfast at the inn, and then set out that morning in search of supplies.

By midday, the pair was quite content. Both of them had purchased a bag of good quality and a discounted price, for they were on sale. They each got one that fit their needs and style. Terick and Kimi enjoyed lunch, also at a discounted price! That seemed to be floating around this city a lot lately. Why? Turns out that the quaint little town was preparing for a festival which would begin tomorrow evening to celebrate the arrival of spring.

“A festival, Terick! Let’s go, huh?” begged Kimi. She grabbed his arm and bounced up and down as if she were a child. As they walked, they passed by a shop that sold kimonos and yukatas and Kimi longed for one. She kept quiet about that though, knowing it wasn’t practical to have it anyway. By asking around, she obtained other pertinent information about the festival. It started off with a parade and that everything would be free. “This festival may be free, and we can go, but we still need to make some money so we can have it for later!” Terick told Kimi.

Kimi sighed and rolled her eyes, sighing, “Well let’s go and find work then! We’ll meet in our room at the inn, when we’re done, ok?” This is how they earned their living. Doing odd jobs around the city they were currently in. Their specialty was fighting, but it wasn’t their limit by far.

After splitting up most of the day, they met back in their room as they’d agreed earlier that day. “How much you got?” Terick asked emptying his pockets.

Kimi threw her money on his bed along with his and reported with a smile, “I made $65 helping out in a restaurant! You?”

Terick had a sly smile on his face and looked at her. His stack of money was noticeably larger, but he answered, “Twenty-five bucks for helping this old guy chop wood, and eighty-five for working right here at the front desk!”

“Are you serious?! That’s $110, Terick! We totally made $175 in one day! That’s an amazing haul!!” exclaimed Kimi hugging Terick tightly. Terick returned the hug and after that, they put food in their stomachs, bathed, and retired for the night.
The next evening, Terick and Kimi went out to have some fun at the Spring Festival. They enjoyed the parade that kicked it off and the countless booths afterward. Everyone was dressed in formal attire or a creative costume.

As they strolled up the street, they could hear laughter in the distance. “Let’s go check it out!” Kimi giggled as she latched onto Terick’s arm and tugged him along. They ended up in what seemed to be a small park. There, in the center of it all was a large amphitheater. Inside, a play was going on! They’d stop and watch the rest of the play to rest.

The two of them found a pleasant spot at the base of a tree and watched the show from a distance. It had been dark out now for a few hours and Terick swore he kept hearing noises above his head, but disregarded it. Only an animal, he thought. Suddenly, there was a giggle that did not belong to Kimi. She was the one to look up and see a young girl perched up on a branch!

Kimi said nothing, as the girl didn’t seem to notice them. She lightly elbowed her friend and shushed him while pointing upward. Terick raised his head to see the same sight in shock! He stood up and called softly to her, “Oi! What’re you doing up there, kid?"
