Okay, so if you go to any other website, even attempt to look up good scary movies, you're going to get a biased opinion. Of course. It's going to happen. This little entry is my own little biased opinions, but also my top ten choices in horror movies. But it's not just horror flicks. I'm labeling each one so that you know which kind of 'horror' you're wanting. So you know that I'm not just typing out the newest and hottest scary movies. I watch every single movie I can get my hands on, even the real shitty ones. And if it's horror, then ******** yeah, I'm going to go see it. And not only will I show tell you my top ten, I'll even throw in a bonus of the worst horror movie I've ever seen.
But remember, you may not be into the types of movies I am. So, don't go flaming me about how you saw these movies and thought they sucked. I have a broad spectrum of movies and likes/hates. I don't like B movies, like the s**t they show on Sci-Fi nowadays. No Giant Shark VS. Mutant Squid, or Anaconda, or anything stupid like that. I like scary movies that make you think, as well as scare you shitless. Though some movies are scarier than others, just warning you. And some may take longer to get into. OH! One more thing! Just because I recommend a movie, does not mean I recommend the sequel. Sequels suck. Some don't. Alright, now that you know, here's my list!
(#1) Animal Genre - Pet Sematary
"Sometimes Dead is Better." Pet Sematary is a 1989 horror flick based on Stephen King's novel of the same name. After moving into their new home the Creed family's cat is killed after wondering onto the highway. Jud an elderly neighbor shows Louis, the father, to an isolated hill behind the local Pet Cemetery and instructs him to bury the deceased feline there. Not long after the cat reappears at the Creed home, only he is not the same. The docile cat is now vicious and destructive. When their youngest son meets with a fatal accident, the distraught Louis buries him in the same location hoping to revive him. Unfortunately he unleashes far more than he had bargained for.
"I'd go for this movie even if it is an older kind. The idea of bringing something back from the dead has always plagued the minds of man, but to actually have it come true... We expect that things would just return to normal once it happens. That your boyfriend or girlfriend will come back, that your mom or dad will be exactly the same; our pets to climb into our laps and snuggle against us like they used to. But once things die... They remain dead. This psychological and intense thriller gives us a glimpse of something beyond the grave. Our loved ones have moved on, leaving an empty shell of their human skin. If they're brought back to life... Well, something is inside them now and it isn't them."
(#2) Creature Genre - Splinter
"It will get under your skin." While camping in the woods, Polly Watt and her clumsy boyfriend Seth Belzer damage their tent. They decide to spend the night in a low-budget motel. Meanwhile the criminals, Lacey Belisle and Dennis Farell, have trouble with their runaway car while heading to Platt and they walk on the lonely road. When Polly passes by Lacey, she stops the car and the couple is rendered by Dennis. However, Polly hits something in the road and while replacing the tire, they are attacked by a weird splinter. The car overheats and they stop in a gas station, where they are trapped by zombies, victims of the splinter parasite.
"Out of all my movie choices, this one is the closest to being B rated. It was released in 2008 with not a sign of commercials or trailers on the TV. But watching it, and seeing the disturbing way body parts crawl and scamper towards you... Egh. It takes a while to get to the good stuff, and the camera angle is a bit shoddy towards the end when the creature is exposed, but over all I liked it. For the Creature Genre, this is definately out of the ordinary."
(#3) Dolls Genre - Puppet Master
"A box of little toys has just become a gang of little terrors. This is not child's play..." Puppet maker Andre Toulon shoots himself at the Bodega Bay Inn before his Secret of Life can be stolen by the Nazis. 50 years later in 1989 the secret is discovered by Neil Gallagher. Soon he sends messages to his psychic friends Alex Whitaker, Dana Hadley, Frank Forrester and Carissa Stamford who arrive to find his wife Megan who claims Neil to be dead. As the night goes by, the murderous puppets are awakend and unleased on the group, only for them to discover that evil comes in all sizes.
"Okay, so it's old so don't go expected awesome graphics and great acting. But it was a golden story in it's time. And the idea of little dolls that could fit almost anywhere moving around on their own, killing people, just adds to the excitement and fear. Each little doll has it's own powers and capabilities, from super strength, to drilling, to even spitting up leeches. But I won't go into detail. Just give this movie a shot and see if you like it. But good luck finding it. Nowadays, all you'll see in movie stores are their sequels: II, III, IV, and some remakes that aren't even that great. The second and third sequel came close but you just can't beat the original."
(#4) Gore Genre - Descent
"Scream your last breath." After a tragic accident, six friends reunite for a caving expedition. Their adventure soon goes horribly wrong when a collapse traps them deep underground and they find themselves pursued by bloodthirsty creatures. As their friendships deteriorate, they find themselves in a desperate struggle to survive the creatures and each other.
"Okay, this flick is for those who can stand gore, and lots of blood, and the cracking of bones breaking through skin. The entire team is composed up of girls who are all best friends. NO, this ain't a lesbian movie. Stop asking! This is one of my favorite movies thus far. It leads you into the fears of a person's worst nightmare, being trapped in a small space with people who are supposed to be your friends and held defend one another. But when things start getting worse and worse, it soon shows that the monsters aren't the only things you should worry about... But your friends as well. WARNING: They're are a lot of movies with this title. Make sure you get the right one."
(#5) New Age Genre - Pulse
"You are now infected." Imagine our wireless technologies made a connection to a world beyond our own. Imagine that world used that technology as a doorway into ours. Now, imagine the connection we made can't be shut down. When you turn on your cell phone or log on to your e-mail, they'll get in, you'll be infected and they'll be able to take from you what they don't have anymore -- life.
"Okay, this isn't New Age, as in magic and fortune telling. This is New Age, as in, in this time and day, it could actually happen. Our lives are run by technology, electricity. We can't go a day without Television, Internet, our cellphones, PDAs, gameboys, game systems, radios- And don't deny it! But now, things, are coming through them, envious of our life and taking over, destroying what makes us, us. They're everywhere we are because we carry them in our pockets, in our bookbags, in our homes. And there's no way to stop them."
(#6) Paranormal Genre - The Messengers
"There is evidence to suggest that children are highly susceptible to paranormal phenomena. They see what adults cannot. They believe what adults deny. And they are trying to warn us." Roy Solomon, his wife Denise, their teenage daughter Jessica and their little son Ben move from Chicago to an old farm in North Dakota to rebuild their family, financially affected by the long unemployment of Roy and a car accident of Jessica that has brought serious problems to Ben. Roy plants sunflowers in the land and hires the stranger Burwell to help him until the harvest. When Jess sees ghosts and poltergeists in the house, her parents do not believe on her. She tries to prove that she is not insane or trying to call their attentions, and discovers the fate of the former owners.
"So, I haven't seen this movie in a while, but I do remember watching it like three times in a row because I liked it so much. Not as much as Pulse, but enough. Graphics are awesome and the scariness is very evident. A gotta see movie."
(#7) Psychological Genre - The Midnight Meat Train
"The most terrifying ride you'll ever take." The photographer Leon lives with his girlfriend and waitress Maya waiting for a chance to get in the photo business. When Maya contacts their friend Jurgis, he schedules a meeting for Leon with the successful owner of arts gallery Susan Hoff; she analyzes Leon's work and asks him to improve the quality of his photos. During the night, the upset Leon decides to wander on the streets taking pictures with his camera, and he follows three punks down to the subway station; when the gang attacks a young woman, Leon defends her and the guys move on. On the next morning, Leon discovers that the woman is missing. He goes to the police station, but Detective Lynn Hadley does not give much attention to him and discredits his statement. Leon becomes obsessed to find what happened with the stranger and he watches the subway station. When he sees the elegant butcher Mahogany in the train, Leon believes he might be a murderer and stalks him everywhere, in the beginning of his journey to the darkness.
"There are other psycho. thrillers such as Halloween that have set their course, making their own paths in our minds, making us think about how a normal child turns into a killer because of hostile surroundings. But what about looking into the minds of his victims? No, we don't see that. We see their fear, but not what they are thinking. They're too scared and make the wrong choices. But in this movie, we see a man go from his ordinary life, to slowly turning into the thing he feared. Ooh, and there's a bonus! GORE and CREATURES in this one as well.
(#8) Realistic Genre
(#9) Space
((#10) Zombie Genre
(Bonus! Crappiest
