Samantha Chapman and the Dawn of the Black Rose: Chapter 1
Spring ended fast that year. The birds were already starting to fly back, the leaves were starting to fall, and the air started to cool. None of that mattered to twelve year old, Samantha Chapman. She wasn't allowed out when the sun was out, only when the clouds covered the sky, and during twilight, when the sun set, and the night took over. She wasn't allowed anywhere outside of the mansion she lived in without her brother, Taylor Chapman and his husband Jake.

Samantha longed for the freedom to go outside and just run. Freely and unprotected. She longed to know why she has to stay in the dark, within the walls of the mansion, to know why she has to live with Taylor and not their mother and father... For all she knows, they could both be dead.

Sadly, all of that is just a dream for her. Samantha exhaled softly and silently as she looked at herself in the mirrow. Her skin was pale, at times it was pure white, and was ice cold. Her eyes were a strange shade, hazel carmel that had dark circles underneath them that gave the appearance that she always had eyeliner on, then slowly, her eyes started to change color. The beautiful eyes that were once carmel, were now a magnificent gray that had flecks of her true color in them.

Her hair was straight and dark brown, it almost looked like a dark red against her pale skin and grown down a little past her chest. She was tall for her young ange and had the body or an anorexic person, but you could tell she was strong like Taylor. Samantha began to breath deeply and daydream as her eyes turned to a calm deep blue. She thought of her parents, Alexander and Melinda Chapman, imagining what they look like. She imagined they look like Taylor and herself.

Same dark brown hair, same carmel eyes, same icy pale skin, and the same tall, anorexic body, but all Samantha has is assumpitions. Samantha walked out onto her balcony and stared up and the dark, star-less sky and the full silver moon. She looked over at the pond that was close by the mansion and she began to recite the balcony scene of Romeo and Juliet. The pond was inhabited by millions apon millions of fireflies that danced on to of the water every night. She smiled as she finished the scene and she watched them dance as she kissed the air, prending it was her Romeo.

A few fireflies flew over to her and she cupped them in her hands, their golden light illuminated her hands and made her skin look pure white. She sighed and continued to watch the fireflies dance. She bent down and told the firefiles in her hands all of her secrets, wishes, and desires. The mansion sat in a small clearing of a dense forest in Montreal, England. In Samantha's mind, in conscious mind, there was no place better.

"Jake," Taylor began, coming out of the bathroom combing his freshly dyed platnum blonde hair.
"Yes, love?" Jake replied, turning to a husband and apon letting his eyes settle on him, Jake's lips twisted into a lovesick smile.
Taylor smiled back at him in the same way. "Go get Sam and tell her to get ready for dinner."
"Do I have to?" Jake whined
"Yes, love you do." Taylor answered sweetly
"Okay," Jake sighed then looked at Taylor teasingly, "but you owe me."
"Sure I do." Taylor mumbled smiling and placing a kiss on the corner of Jake's mouth.

Jake sighed happily and smiled brightly. Taylor rose his eyebrows at him and Jake nodded.

"Sam!" Jake called as he climbed the stairs to his sister-in-law's room.

He stopped at her closed, locked door and tapped on it lightly.

"Yes, Jake?" Samantha asked from the other side of the door, jumping from her thoughts. "What is it?"
"Dinner's almost ready," he replied. "Be downstairs in about ten minuets."
"Okay." she whispered, listening to Jake desending the stairs.

She looked out one last time at the moon and fireflies, letting the one in her hands free. Samantha sighed softly, opened her door, and eased down the stairs silently.

"Anything I can do?" Samantha asked Taylor as she walked into the kitchen.
"Nope, not a thing." Taylor answered, giving his little sister a one-armed hug.

Samantha sighed and looked at her brother, her eyes glowed a light green.

"What?" he asked, eyeing her in suspicion
"Will you ever let your hair brown for more than a few months?"
"Hope." Taylor answered, smiling evily.

Samantha rolled her eyes, which changed to purple as she walked into the living room and flopped down on the couch. She closed her eyes and sighed softly.

"Why're you so happy?" Jake asked, looking at her.

Samantha looked at him and he smiled at her. Like Taylor and herself, Jake had pure white teeth and large, sharp canines, velvet chocolate brown hair that covered the tops of his ears, his eyes were an icy brown, his skin was naturaly pale and cold, and even though he was sitting down, he was tall and had an anorexic figure.

"Well, Caleb just wished me happy birthday." she answered
"He's earlie." Taylor remarked, still in the kitchen.
"Yeah," Samantha replied. "but, at least he remembered."
"He should, you two were born the same day." Jake pipped up
"No duh..." Samantha rolled her eyes as her thoughts drifted to her guardian angel, Caleb.

His gorgeous non-changing icy crystal blue eyes, his taller anorexic figure, his soft, jet black hair that partly covered his right eye and the tops of his ears, his cold pale skin, his beautiful pure white wings... her best friend since birth.

"So," Samantha began, falling out of her thoughts of her angelic love. "Don't you have something to say?"
"Happy thirteen, Sam." Taylor and Jake replied at the exact same time, pulling her into the darkened kitchen.

Jake covered Samantha's eyes while Taylor turned the lights on. When Jake removed his hands, Samantha gasped happily. On the black mahogany table was a chocolate cake with vanilla frosting, and everywhere else red rose petals lay.

"Oh my gods..." she gasped, smiling up at her brother and brother-in-law. "Thank you."
"You're welcome." Jake replied as they watched Taylor poke thirteen holes in the cake for the candles and light them on fire.

Jake ushered Samantha to the table and he and Taylor sung her happy birthday. As they cut the cake into three equal pieces and began to eat, the doorbell rang. There was akward silence between the three of them. After a few seconds, Jake got up. When Jake opened the door, no one was there. The only thing on the front steps were two letters. One for Samantha, the other for Taylor and Jake.

"Sam!" Jake called, trying to be calm. "Come here!"
"Did I do something wrong?" Samantha asked nervously as she walked into the entry hall to Jake.

Jake turned to her and shoved her letter in her chest.

"Take this up to your room...stay quiet." he whispered quickly, slipping the other letter in his back pocket.

Samantha eyed it curiously.

"Why?" she snapped, then pointed at Jake's hip. "What's that?"
"Just do it." he replied harsly, "and it's none of your business."

As Jake glided back to the kitchen, Samantha heard him and Taylor talking very fast. She shook her head as she ran up the stairs. Once she got to her room, she opened the letter and began to read.

Dear Ms. Chapman,
This letter is from Pierce Veil Academy, a school of vampires and everything else paranormal. We are happy to say that you have to been accepted. Please find enclosed a list of all books and equiptment necessary for the school term. The term begins, December first. We shall await for your reply no later than, November twenty second.

Sincerely,
Miles Ellis, Headmaster

Samantha's knees became weak. She lost her breath, her eyes turned yellow, she collapsed on to her bed and stared at her glass ceiling. She was unable to breath, unable to blink. She just lay motionless on her bed.

"Sam up in her room?" Taylor asked once he and Jake calmed down.
"Yeah," Jake answered. "She be back down soon."
"J-Jake? Can you come up here for a minuet?" Samantha asked, trying to keep her voice calm.
"Sure," Jake answered."

Taylor and Jake looked at each other. Taylor'e eyes widened and his shook his head quickly, but Jake ignored him.

"Coming, Sam!" Jake called getting up from the table.

As soon as Jake walked into Samantha's room, she clicked the door closed and slowly, she turned to him. They looked at each other intently, both as silent and silent as statues.

"What the hell is this about?" she suddenly snapped.
"Calm down, Sammy." Jake replied calmly, shocked at her choice of words.
"Don't call me Sammy." she growled, then tears started to form. "How can you I when you and Taylor kept this from me for thirteen years? Jake, please...what's happening to me?"

Samantha let her tears fall in loud mournful sobs. Jake just watched her sadly.

"S-Sam, d-don't cry..." Jake begged, whispering. "Taylor will hear you."
"I don't care, Jake!" Samantha screamed

The two were silent, then a few seconds later, Taylor came running into the room.

"Sammy, are you okay?" Taylor asked nervously, his eyes twinged to a dark blue.
"How could you Taylor?" his sister screamed at him, her eyes burning emerald with anger.
"How could I what?" Taylor replied, trying to remember the last time his sister's eyes were this green.
"How could you not tell me I'm a freak of nature?" she cried, fresh bloody tears pouring out of her eyes. "Why couldn't have Caleb told me this?"
"For one," Taylor began calmly, "we told him not to tell you till you got your letter... Jake, you told her?"

Taylor's eyes sparkled green and there was anger in his voice as he looked at his husband.

"No I didn't," Jake replied innocently. "She figured it out on her own, in the letter."
"Damn letter." Taylor whispered, calming down.
"Neither of you answered my question," Samantha remarked, now curled up into a ball on her bed.

Both Taylor and Jake glided over to her and sat down next to her. Taylor wrapped an arm around her shoulders as she was shaking with tears.

"Okay, Sammy. What I'm going to tell you is all true." Taylor began sighing "You are infact a vampire. I am and dad was. Mom and dad never go married, but they had me and seven years later they had you. They had to keep the bloodline going smoothly. Mom and dad never got married because it's against the law. Non-vampires are, stones."
"If mom and dad didn't get married, why did you and Jake?" Samantha asked
"Because, we love each other." Taylor answered disdainfully
"Are we full-blooded, or half-blooded?"
"Yes, we're pure-blooded vampies."
"How, I thought mom was a stone?"
"She was, yes, but the day they met, dad bit her. Making mom half-blooded."

Samantha nodded in understand meant.

"Now besides it being against the law and their status of love, the reason mom and dad didn't get married is beacause they didn't want dad's powers getting out of control. Of course, they did. It was just after you were born. His eyes turned black and he took out his wand. He preformed the Opten curse, the killing curse. Mom died holding you in her arms.
After a year or two, this evil vampire, Lucifer came and killed dad. Lucifer is this pure-evil, dark vampire. The greatest vampire sorcerer of all time. Dad knew he was coming for him so I took you and ran. Almost as if it knew, once we were at a safe distence, the house blew up in black flames.
When I turned thirteen, I was able to fully take care of you, with Jake's help of course when I was at school." Taylor glanced at Jake and winked at him.
"If we're pure-blooded vampires, why haven't we attacked Jake?" Samantha asked, unwanted eagerness in her voice.
"There's magic in us." Taylor answered "It keeps us safe to temptation at times."

Samantha nodded and turned to Jake

"Did you know you married a vampire?" she asked him
"Of course I did," Jake answered smiling. "I knew from the first night I helped take care of you. The night before your brother had to go to school."

"She asleep?" Jake asked as he watched Taylor desend the stairs from Samantha's room.
"Yeah, out like a light. Don't worry, Sammy's good with strangers." Taylor replied sitting next to Jake on the ebony leather couch.
"But, I'm not a stranger," Jake said innocently. "I've been coming here for the whole summer getting to know her."
"True, but this is the first night I won't be here to protect your pretty little face..."

Jake looked at Taylor smugly and smirked. Taylor had left the hallway door open, letting in the cold night air, and making Jake shiver violently. Taylor snikered and wraped his arms around Jake, but it only made him shiver more.

"Y-your skin is pale and ice cold, your eyes change color with your emotions, your body figure and normal eye color- they're not normal, and sometimes...when you speak...you sound like a different person...My theories." Jake whispered softly as he rested his head on Taylor's chest, listening to his hollow heartbeat.
"Yes, yes, yes, and yes." Taylor agreed "Do you have an answer to tie up your theories?"
"Vampire." Jake replied softly

Taylor nodded and his eyes turned to a soft brown.

"Are you afraid?" Taylor asked softly
"No." Jake answered proudly "You won't hurt me."
"I'm a vampire...and you don't care that I could come at you at any second?"
"No, you won't hurt me." he repeated "I-I've seen it in your eyes that you won't."

Taylor nodded slowly and his eyes oozed, then burned to gold.

Jake gave a small gasp. "What does gold mean?" he whispered
"Gold, my dearest Jake, means love. Pure love. Gold means love."
A small smirk spread across Jake's face. "Then, my eyes are gold too."

"Wow," Samantha whispered softly. "Here we are, eleven years later."
"Yep." Taylor and Jake agreed, similing brightly.
"Taylor," Samantha began nervously. "Will we ever die?"
Taylor nodded softly. "If we're shot at with the Opten curse or the Deimos kai Phobos, vas a morir por la espada curse." Taylor answered then added, "I don't ever want to hear that you've cast either one of those curses. Got it? Especialy Deimos kai Phobos, vas a morir por la espada...even though there's a counter curse for it, most people don't know it."
"Got it," Samantha promised sincerely. "Who was that other letter from?"
Taylor and Jake looked at each other, then back at Samantha.

"Your brother-
"Twin brother." Jake iturrupted
"Right...My younger brother, your twin brother, Sterling." Taylor said calmly
"What?" Samantha exclaimed, her eyes shot to a cold, hard, isy crystal blue.
Taylor shook of his sister's shock and continued. "He looks just like you, he's going to be in your year, and more than likely in the same house. Crystal will be there too."
"C-Crystal? As in sister-in-law Crystal? Samantha gasped "Jake's little sister, Crystal?"
Jake chuckled under his breath. "That's the one," he answered.
"Where will we go to get my stuff?" Samantha asked, calming down a little bit.
"Hawthorne Pass." Jake answered

Samantha nodded and yawned softly.

"Somebody's sleepy!" Jake teased and Samantha stuck her tongue out at him.
"Ready for bed, Sammy?" Taylor asked sweetly

Samantha nodded, her eyes already beginning to droop.

"Yeah," she answered mumbling, "and don't call me, Sammy..."
"Night, Sam." Jake whispered, kissing her forehead. "Happy Birthday."

Then he left. Leaving the brother and sister alone.

"Did you have a nice birthday?" Taylor asked, laying down next to his sister and stroking her hair softly.

Samantha snuggled closer to him and rested her head on his rising and falling chest.

"Yeah," she whispered then looked up at her brother. "Is this the reason why you wouldn't let me outside when the sun was out?"
"Yeah, partly." he answered softly. "People would know you're different."

Samantha nodded in understand ment and kissed the base of her brother's neck. He smiled down at her and did the same. When they sepparated, Taylor got up from his sister's bed and looked down at her, holding both of her hands tightly.

"Night," she whispered softly, looking up at him.
"Night," he whispered back placing a kiss apon her mouth. "Yours in eternity."
"Yours in eternity." she replied
"Tell Caleb I said hi."
"Will do." Samantha promised

Taylor kissed her lips once more and pulled his fingers through her hair. Samantha had to restrain herself to let him go. He kissed her neck once more, nodded, then glided out of her room. The room was dark, the only light was coming from the fireflies that flew around her. She close her eyes slowly and Caleb brought her into subconsisniousness. Crickets chripped and owls hooted in the distence. The wind blew lightly, sending in red rose petals and the scent of vanilla. A wolf howled close by and the double glass doors that led out to the balcony clicked closed.
