Day I of James Ivanson's Combat Journal
Today is my first day of training...I don't know what to expect. The knight assigned roped into training us seems...well, apathetic, actually. He doesn't seem to think that we can do it. What's it? Oh, right, this is technically a combat journal. Well, I, along with three other Lower City commoners have been "drafted" by express order of the King. Why? Because we each have Gifts. Charybdis, or Cherry, is going to be the new Mage Incarnate. She has all the powers of the Elements, even Healing, at her fingertips...or so the current Mage Incarnate says. I'd never seen her as anything but happy-go-lucky Cherry, but supposedly she's the most powerful Mage they've seen yet.
Then there's Danny. He's the most cocky b*****d self-assured young man I've ever met. He's training to become Master of Arms, which basically means that he'll be the best soldier. Ever. Not that that really helps his swelled ego anyway, but whatever.
Belle is the new (and hugely improved) Queen's Lady. She'll learned swordfighting, poisoning, assissnation and some...womanly stuff like sewing or something. But her entire purpose is to protect the queen. And she can, and will. For someone as pretty as she is, she's sure a spitfire!
And...then there's...me. I'm afraid I'm not too important. I'm just supposed to learn everything from the Druidkin, and then I will be completely in tune with all of Nature and her Children. It kind of scares me, being able to feel all that. But warriors aren't supposed to admit to fear! Fear is what makes us warriors! Right...well, break's over, the knight is pulling us back to drill. He looks even happier than usual...I'll bet we're going to spar. He always gets a creepy smile when he watches us flounder about with our bits of steel...oh well. We're important, after all....
