Earth is united under a single world government. However, this new government is corrupt and only out to gain wealth for the small percentage of the already wealthy inhabitants, now mostly politicians and big business owners. These people have decided that crime is a huge hindrance to their goals and as such have created a stricter policy towards it: Prison Island.

Prison Island is an uninhabited island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean that used to serve as a vacation residence to the wealthy of many countries. Now the former structures are little more than piles of debris scattered throughout the island's formerly beautiful scenery. Nothing has survived that could possibly aid those prisoners stranded on this island as punishment for their crimes.

There is a catch. Not all of these so-called "criminals" have broken the law or are even deserving of such a punishment. They know what the government intends to do to the planet and the people living on it and decided to foolishly speak out on the subject. This has caused a wide-spread disappearance of people in the dead of night, kidnapped by a corrupt government and sentenced to prison in order to prevent any sort of rebellion developing against their ultimate goals. And, of course, why not make a little money off of these do-gooders?

After being sent to Prison Island, these people will be forced to fight to the death in order to stay alive and hope to be released from their captivity. Prison Island has become a very popular reality television show among the upper class of the world. They think that these people fighting with each other are murderers and other violent criminals. The show rakes in millions a week from viewers entertained by the spectacle. Of course, no one has ever escaped the island, that's what makes it entertaining.





Follow these rules to help make this RP successful. Failure to do so may result in blacklisting or banishment.

Rule #1: Follow Gaia ToS.
Rule #2: This is a literate RP which means proper spelling, grammar and punctuation; complete sentences; and good formatting. Also, no one liners, more than one paragraph is a good thing, people. Just don't go overboard and write a novel. ;P
Rule #3: Keep extreme foul language to a minimum. It's lame and boring. I prefer creativity to a limited vocabulary. 'Kay?
Rule #4: No cybering whatsoever. You will be banned from the RP for even one instance. This includes the RP and PMs. It is against the Gaia ToS and I won't risk my RP or account because of it. However, romance is allowed, though not encouraged as it would be unlikely.
Rule #5: I want dedicated RPers. There will be no leaving for several days while the rest of us hang around waiting for a post to move the story along. Post regularly or don't join. If you must leave for an extended time period, I ask for a head's up so I can prepare for it.
Rule #6: No god-modding. Duh...
Rule #7: No OOC only posts. OOC comments must be put in parentheses, kept to a minimum, and preferably only about the RP itself. An OOC thread may be created if enough people want one for plot discussion, etc.

Rule #8: Only a maximum of two characters per person, but they must be of different classes (Prisoner, Outsider, Bureaucrat). Does not count NPCs.
Rule #9: Each character must have his/her own color in order to distinguish their posts from the others.
Rule #10: PM all profiles to me with the subject "Prison Island Profile". Profiles sent by any other method will not be accepted.

Rule #11: I reserve the right to add/modify/delete these rules in any way I choose or at anytime. You will, however, be informed of any changes in the RP itself.





Here is where all the profiles for various characters in the RP will go. Not all sections are open to all players. More information will be given for the other sections upon invitation to create a character for it. (Also, please let me know in the PM whether you would be interested in playing an Outsider. If so, please only create one Prisoner character max. I will observe your RPing skills, etc. and send you info about the Outsiders when it is time for them to come into play.)

Here is where the profiles for the characters who are not a part of the upper-class and who are not prisoners. This section will not be needed until later on in the story and is currently closed to all entries. Some of these might be NPCs.




Here is where all of those pesky world leaders and governmental agents will go. Yeah... They're pretty much the bad guys in this story. This section is open only to select individuals and by invitation only, not player request. Mostly NPC profiles will go here.





News relating to the RP, such as rule changes, black or white list additions, and temporary hiatuses, will be posted here. Notices in the RP itself as well as any OOC thread that may be created for this RP will also be posted.





After many decades of struggle, one man finally managed to unite the nations of the world under one government with himself as the head. He was a greedy, poor excuse for a human hiding behind a mask of righteousness and good will. The world he created only truly benefited the rich while those who were of the middle and lower classes lived in a pseudo-reality that was a pale imitation of the one experienced by the upper class.

Some people noticed this and began to speak out against this man. Realizing that these lower class people could start a revolution among the majority of the population and eventually overthrown him, he declared a war on crime and used it as a front to kidnap these outspoken individuals in the dead of night. The rest of the population has little idea of what happens to these people who suddenly disappear off the face of the earth. Only the corrupt government knows where they go.

Masquerading the captured individuals as violent, evil criminals the government's secret police force takes them to a holding area until a certain day each month when they are transported out of their first prison to their final destination: Prison Island.

Prison Island is an island formerly catering to the upper class citizens of multiple countries in the form of vacation homes and such, but it was one of the first places to be destroyed in the War of Unity as it is now called. The government uses it as a place to send their political prisoners, the people kidnapped in the dead of night for speaking out against the new government. It is a ruin with nothing left to affect an escape from the island. The only functional equipment on Prison Island are remote, solar-powered video cameras to record every moment of the rest of these poor people's lives. Yes, they are constantly under surveillance even when stranded on a remote island.

Because of the greed of the world's new leader, he decided to make a little money off of the well-intended foolishness of the so-called "criminals" that he sends to Prison Island. Thus, the video cameras. A new show airing once a week draws in millions of viewers, mainly from the upper- and upper middle-class citizens who can afford to purchase this specialty program. It is called Prison Island and details the final struggle of all the "violent, evil criminals given a second chance at a normal life."

The "normal life" these "criminals" are being offered is a lie, a false hope, created by the government to encourage a better television show and higher viewer rating. Prison Island is the new blood sport. The high class citizens watching the show are entertained by the bloody, violent conflict born from desperation as normal, lower class citizens fight each other to the death in the hopes they might one day return home to their friends and family.

No one has ever managed to make it off the island. Not a single soul had the ability to survive the harsh conditions and violent conflicts they would have to suffer for a month before the police returned with another set of prisoners. Mostly, one or two would still be alive by the end of a month, the required time period they stay alive on the island, but would be shot on sight by the cops returning with a fresh batch of prisoners and more entertainment for the people back home.

This is now the life for a new group of prisoners whose only wish is the same as those who came before: to survive and escape the island. Perhaps this time, these prisoners will accomplish what their predecessors never could or perhaps they would succumb to the difficulties of the situation they are in. No one knows, but someone, somewhere, has to stand up and fight. Someone has to lead the rest of the world in a revolution and win back their freedom from the wealthy leaders who would destroy the population for even more riches.
