Salathielly's Commonplace Log
9/11
At 6:00 a.m. this morning I was at a park helping to stick flags in the ground - around 3,000, one for each person who lost their life on 9/11/01. The ground was hard, so I got small blisters on my thumb and pinky - such a little sacrifice compared to the ultimate sacrifice. I stayed until the 8:00 ceremony, concluding with taps being played when the plane struck the first tower. In between I talked to some of the other people who were there. It was a little awkward when the conversation turned somewhat political and I wasn't quite on the same end of the spectrum, but I didn't want to get into the middle of anything. My views sadly aren't that strong. A lot of hatred toward Muslims...

Then I went to the CSA and got to hear other people's stories about where they were on 9/11. One man had flown a week later and had two Arabs on his plane, and all the other passengers were rather freaked out, particularly when the one guy stayed in the bathroom forever.

I still remember going into choir 3rd period and seeing what was happening on TV. That was the first time I'd ever heard of the Twin Towers, sadly. I think we watched TV in most of our classes that day, except for Mr. Olson's precalc class. I got my beta fish that day from my AP Bio class. When I got home, Mom was glued to the TV and in tears, saying that it was going to turn into Vietnam. Dad took me to get some supplies for my fish, and we picked up dinner. It was a surreal day.
