A long time ago, an alien by the name of Evard left his home planet in search of Schlack, which in our language translates to trees. He is what we would call a carpenter or woodworker. His race looks just like us in every way. His community is far more advanced than ours, but Evard loves the sense of accomplishment when he completes a piece out of wood. He makes furniture and tools as a hobby and occasionally a bowl or cup. But Evard has run out of wood and is in search of a planet that has some.
Two days after his journey starts, Evard encounters a space storm which launches him into a wormhole that takes him far off course. He ends up in a solar system not familiar to him. He immediately searches for a planet to land on in order to check and make repairs to his ship. The only one that would allow him to breathe was a planet that had only one moon and was the third planet in orbit around a star known to us as the sun. Evard decides to land his spacecraft in a wooded area and begins his decent.
As soon as he begins to land Evard notices his landing equipment is not functional. So he ends up crash landing. This worsens his situation and he soon realizes he’ll have to seek out help from one of the life forms on the planet. All of his systems are down and he decides to start walking in a direction we know as north. He saw a star that was slightly brighter than the rest and decided to follow it. We know this as the north star. He followed it until morning when he came upon a house with a loving family occupying it. They were startled by the visitor and more startled by his story, but once they saw his ship they had no choice but to believe him.
The family took him in and took care of him. They told Evard that they would do what they could, but they would need outside help to repair his ship. It turns out that the father was a previous member of the United Nations. They called an immediate meeting and agreed that the man is simply an explorer and means no harm to our planet or civilization and agreed to help him in any way.
Auto and aircraft makers around the world teamed up to fix his ship. Families around the world made him food to eat. Earth embraced him and treated him as a guest. They took care of everything and forced him to stay in the woods. He didn’t mind, seeing as he loved to work with wood. He used his time wisely and got to working with wood.
Evard was on Earth for a total of 11 months and what the earthlings called Christmas was nearing. His ship was just completed and he was saying his last goodbyes. Evard enjoyed his time on earth and promised to return once a year. On the night of his departure, while everyone was asleep, Evard traveled across the world and delivered wooden toys to every house to show his appreciation for the kindness he experienced while visiting. Evard returned to his home planet and started to make more and more sophisticated toys and gifts in order to deliver them to planet earth every Christmas Eve.
