As I write a lot of supernatural works, I do have a need to distinguish between the two, and I do not care if others want to adopt this for their own works.
Ability: a gift of some sort, usually creature-specific, that just effects the creature using it. Wall-walking and shape-shifting are abilities.
Power: being able to warp the world and other beings around them. So using magic or turning someone else into something is a power.
Also, because I am defining things anyway:
Monster: a non-human, unearthly creature with sentience. They may or may not be man-made.
While others may argue it, it works for me and my works.

There is just something about a twisted, fear-obsessed scientist and a drugged-up, a**-kicking daddy's girl that just warms your heart. <3
