Saint Valentine's Story
Saint Valentine was a priest in Rome when the emperor thought men would make better soldiers if they weren't married. So, he otlawed marriage. Saint Valentine thought this was wrong, and secretly married men and women who were in love. When the emperor found out, he had Saint Valentine put in jail. The Roman emperor told Saint Valentine he would set him free if he left his Christian faith and served only the Roman government, but Saint Valentine refused.
While he was in prison, Saint Valentine became good friends with his guard's daughter. She would bring him food, water, and anything else he needed. On February 14, 270 AD, the day of his execution, Saint Valentine wrote her a note thanking her for her friendship and signed it, "From you Valentine."
