Salathielly's Commonplace Log
Visit and more CLAMP
Yet another visit from a friend from college. This time we went with my sister and her boyfriend to the Natural History Museum, which turned out to be rather awesome. I'm not generally a fan of preserved stuffed animals, but the taxidermy in this museum was well done and really provided a sense of scope and grandeur to the exhibits. The dinosaur bones and fossils were spectacular, as were the outdoor animals, the gems, the astronomy elements...pretty much everything. I enjoyed it much more than the science center. We then wandered around Coventry (with a minimum of walking, as it was raining) - we visited a toy store, a used book store (sadly only a minuscule section of mythology books), and a couple of other indie type stores before meeting some of my sister's art therapy friends for dinner. Then we went back to a friend's apartment and played a game that was basically a drawing version of telephone, which inspired a lot of laughs (bridezilla!).

I finished reading the Diana Wynne Jones duology I was working on - Dark Lord of Derkholm and Year of the Griffin. I do like her books, and I find them very engaging, but there's something about her writing style that bothers me, and I can't quite put my finger on it. But these books were clever in idea, and they had griffins. Griffins are awesome.

I've also gotten through the three CLAMP school series: Man of Many Faces, CLAMP School Detectives, and Duklyon: CLAMP School Defenders. They were very tongue-in-cheek and campy (in my opinion, anyway), and they almost seemed to parody themselves and to be very self-aware. Not my favorite CLAMP works, but they were fun, especially Duklyon, as it was just so over-the-top.
