R.O.C. and Class Polls
So with summer close approaching, I've been thinking a lot about Taiwan. You know, they really should decide on the whole "is Taiwan part of China" issue. Except they really just can't, because if they declared independence China would turn their bombs on them. Today I was doing a presentation, where I had to mention somewhere that I was interested in "insert Chinese issue here" because I was from Taiwan. And it's technically under the Republic of China... officially, I mean. Half of my class believes it to be part of China while the other one is stubborn that it is not, so I didn't know which way to side on my presentation. Politics. x.x

Just for fun (even though I already know a lot about it), I went to Yahoo! Answers to read up on current Taiwan young culture. It was kind of sad really; lots of people were ranting on about how Taiwan was too beauty-obsessed. There was this one guy whose female classmate was told by her mother, "It's okay if you fail your class; as long as you are beautiful." (That reminds me so much of the exaggerated "most beautiful woman in the world" Boa Hancock from One Piece.) I guess you get that with urban areas all around the world; people are obsessed with beauty. All of my relatives live in Taiwan. Whenever I go shopping with them all they do is point out my every flaw. "Lily, why are you so flat? Maybe you can consider a boob job." "Lily, your hair looks flat." "Lily, your eyebrows are so thin. You should get plastic surgery for that!" "Lily, you are too skinny. It is just not attractive." On the streets there are more people with dyed brown hair than natural black. My cousin, a teenager now, is really into fashion. When she gets gussied up, she looks like a completely different person; a clone of everyone else on the street.

But not my youngest cousin! She is so cute. I feel sorry for her because she's always getting bullied and picked on for her tall height. Her classmates apparently voted her and her three friends as the "weirdest girls in their grades". Yes, it was an "official" class poll. Interesting, huh? Random fact: Rainie Yang, the young and famous Taiwanese celebrity who starred in a lot of T-dramas was actually voted the most hated girl in her high school. This makes me wonder: WHY IN THE WORLD DO THEY HAVE THOSE TYPE OF POLLS?
