Amory Remmington:
Amory groaned softly as he walked to the dance, wishing he had something to distract himself from the slight pain in his ankle. The elemental had tripped on the way up to his room to unpack, giving his ankle a slight sprain. As he headed off to the dance, surprisingly remembering where it was, he questioned why he was going there in the first place. Before he'd even arrived, he'd decided he wasn't going at the mere mentioning of it. He didn't do well in crowds and he didn't know anyone at the school, so what was the point? Yes, he could make a acquaintance or two, but that didn't mean much. He'd rather be in his dorm room, reading. The costume his father picked out for him didn't help either. Sure, he liked the costume, but it's an embarrassing fact that he doesn't have to paint himself green to look like the character herself that bothers him. Dressing in drag, he doesn't mind. It's not like it's frilly in any sort of fashion. For some reason, probably due to boredom, he decided to go to the dance and at least see what was going on. With cane in hand, he entered the busy room, groaning inwardly to himself.
The elemental was greeted by the site of what seemed like, at least to him, too many young men talking and dancing. He tried to find a way to maneuver through the crowd without running into someone. He loathed crowds. They always made him paranoid that someone was going to hurt him. Slowly he made his way through the room, careful of his injured leg and anyone around him. "Where should I go?" he thought, scanning the room. To his relief, he saw a refreshment table near by and headed in that direction, hoping he could find some food and drinks to distract himself with. When he arrived, he noticed a smaller boy sniffling slightly at the table. He was wearing a pink, frilly dress and hat that Amory would never be caught in if you payed him, but it looked nice on the young man. You'd expect Amory to run off and ignore the sad young man by the way he acted sometimes, but he wasn't heartless. Quietly, he walked up next to him, adjusting his own wig under his hat. "Are you alright?" he asked softly. There was nothing patronizing in his voice. He was slightly concerned about what was going on. The boy turned around quickly at the unfamiliar voice. "Sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. I was just coming over to the refreshment table. I'm Amory. I just transferred here due to... unforeseen events." The elemental still had a slight black eye and other bruises from the 'unforeseen event' that made him have to transfer there.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory sat down with a soft sigh, resting his sore leg. "Thank you. I like your costume too." When the smaller teen mentioned his 'paint', he took a big drink of the cup of punch in his hand and sighed. "It's not paint at all." he admitted. He should have saw this coming. He was dressed up as someone who was green so obviously people would think he was wearing paint. "I'm actually... green. Odd, isn't it?" Sitting there quietly for a moment, he hissed at a throb of pain in his own leg. "Tripped trying to unpack my things. I'm terribly uncoordinated at times." he snickered, turning to the boy. "So, what year are you in?"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Yes, I definitely wouldn't look right with purple skin." Amory said with a smile. "Wait, you like it? That's a first, that's for sure." When the young man next to him pulled out some painkillers and plopped them into his hand, he wondered how many pills he was carrying around. "His leg must be in pain a lot." He seemed trustworthy enough not to try to kill him, so Amory quickly downed the pills with a cup of punch. "Thank you. I'm a sophomore." Looking around at the group of people he still thought was far too many he sighed. "I don't like being around people too much. The only reason I came down here was because being in my room alone was a bore. I don't do well in crowds or around people in general. They don't seem to like me and I don't seem to like them. You seem alright, though." The boy hadn't said something to bother him too much yet, so he was eternally grateful for that.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Trust me, I'm used to being around strange people I don't know or don't want anything to do with. It doesn't mean I have to enjoy it." Amory said with a slight smile. That was what his entire school career was like so far. Other than one person, this boy was the closest thing he'd had to a friend and he hardly knew him. "Well, my father's not a Lord or anything of the sort. He just owns many sweets factories and such. He managed to make quite a lot of money with them, surprisingly. Well, my father's family is of pretty high stature, but we have nothing to do with them." For now, he decided not to tell the boy why he and his father never talked to his family. Bringing up his family past right after meeting him seemed improper. When Talbot mentioned how his leg got hurt, the older teen couldn't help but feel a small ping of sympathy for him. "Well, I'd say 'I'm sorry.", but that honestly wouldn't change what happened to you and I didn't do it myself. Though I do feel bad it happened to you. It must have been even horrors I can't imagine. I suppose I can wish it wouldn't happen to you again, though. I only got teased, beat up, and had cruel pranks pulled on me. That's minor compared to what you must have went through." Noticing the crowd as well, the green teen stood up with Talbot and tried to see what was going on. "I can't see anything over the bloody crowd. Seems like a fight, though. I'm not getting myself involved in this."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The last two weeks had been rather uneventful for Amory, though he was glad for that. Other than a cold, nothing had happened. He'd personally rather have a boring week than someone trying to beat the stuffing out of him. He and Talbot had almost became friends, much to the elemental's shock. It made him ecstatic that he had at least one friend, though he managed to hide it behind his usual calm expression. No one had said anything much to him about his skin or ears, which he was eternally grateful for. He thought that being at this school might not be so bad.
He hadn't really thought much about the holidays since Halloween. Sure, he loved holidays, but he just had other things on his mind. He was more worried about his potted plants surviving winter and studying than anything. Though he was an exceptional gardener and rather intelligent in his own right, he still had to work.
Amory sat in the library, trying to study to the best of his abilities. He still had a slight cold, though it wasn't contagious, and his head was stuffy, distracting him from the book in his hand. The chair beneath him felt so uncomfortable, even though he was sure it wasn't. He just didn't feel like sitting in the chair for much longer. Maybe he'd head up to his room and study before or walk around for a bit. At least his ankle wasn't swollen anymore, so he didn't have to use his cane. He read over the book in his hand with a numb expression, trying to actually pay attention to what he was reading rather than his headache, stuffed sinuses, and how uncomfortable his entire being felt.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory's study was brought to a halt by a commotion at the front desk. It's not exactly that they were being loud, per se, but he had very sensitive ears, even when sick. Apparently, someone had canceled an order of Braille books for a blind student. He found that incredibly idiotic himself and didn't understand why in God's name they would do that. Unable to concentrate, he closed his textbook and stuffed them in his bag. "Maybe I could find something else to read..." he whispered, standing up from the chair. He rubbed at his irritated throat and walked to the 'Fiction' section of the library. Hopefully he could find a book to take his mind off of everything.
The teen searched through the shelves of books, trying to find something that peaked his interest. If he couldn't find anything he liked, he'd probably just grab a random book off the shelf and read it anyways. Just as he was getting up from the floor, searching the bottom shelves, he felt his back hit someone and they toppled to the floor. He quickly got up and turned around, feeling completely horrible. "I'm so sorry!" he groaned, helping the other up. "I swear, I usually only hurt myself, but today must be an exception." He noticed the cane in the other teen's hand and blinked. He noticed that first and his cat ears and tail second. He wasn't exactly one to make fun of someone for looking odd when it happened to him far too much. "You must be whoever was arguing with the librarian earlier. I didn't mean to eavesdrop. I just have really sensitive ears. I'm Amory."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory sighed in relief and fidgeted with his book bag. "Nice to meet you, Gaki.Well, I didn't exactly see you coming. I was turned around and stood up just as you got behind me. Curse my bad luck. I usually only hurt myself, though. I'm uncoordinated. I usually only crash into inanimate objects, which would probably be even sillier than crashing into a moving one."
After what seemed like hours of awkward silence, though it was only a couple of minutes, he said. "You know, I know where the Braille books are. I may have only been here for a couple of weeks, but I spend enough time in the library to know where they are. I don't understand why they'd cancel the order of Braille text books. I could always read your books to you, but I'm still getting over a cold." Feeling a sneeze coming on, Amory quickly turned from Gaki and grabbed a tissue from his bag, sneezing softly. "Sorry. Don't worry. I'm not contagious or anything. Now, let's go find those books. I can always look for a book for myself later."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory frowned slightly at the mentioning of his crappy awareness of his surroundings and sighed. He hated when people said things like that about him, but he was well used to it by then. "Well, I'm usually reading and walking at the same time when I hit things. Sometimes I just get too submerged into my books and don't realize there's a wall in front of me. That, or I'm angry or in a hurry." He shifted slightly due to being uncomfortable and smiled at him. "I'll go find those books. Unfortunately, there aren't too many books in Braille. I suppose they didn't consider the possibility that they might actually get a student who needs them. Maybe now they will."
Amory scurried around for a bit, grabbing all of the Braille books he could find. Sadly they weren't in their own section so he had to search everywhere, coming back every once in a while to where Gaki was sitting to set the books down. Soon he plopped down in a chair next the other, realizing he shouldn't have ran around like he did while he was sick. "I... I think I found them all. There's a couple of textbooks in here, but I'm not sure if they're the ones you need. The teachers might have copies in Braille. you should ask them. By the way, I didn't do this out of pity. I was just trying to be nice. Especially since I knocked you on your a**."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory smiled widely at the thanks and nodded. "It's no problem at all. It would have taken ages to find the books on your own. I'm surprised I found them so fast myself and I can see. Well, kind of. I have glasses and I might as well be blind without them. Everything looks like a blur of color." He sighed softly and watched Gaki go through the books, knowing it was much more difficult to not be able to see at all. Though, that meant the other couldn't see exactly what he looked like and couldn't tease him for it. The neko seemed like an alright person, though he was probably just grateful someone helped him. "You know, I don't get thanked often. Honestly, I don't get talked to often. Not that I mind, of course. I kind of like being alone so I can concentrate on my books... sometimes." At that moment, he was just hoping the other didn't ask what he looked like or why people didn't like to talk to him. He really liked the fact that someone wasn't judging him for something he couldn't control.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory smiled weakly and nodded. "I know you're right. I never said it was the same as being completely blind, you know. I don't think I could handle that. I'd rather have my shitty eyesight than be completely blind." He quickly made his way over to the bookshelf and grabbed a book before heading back, needing something to read himself. "'Salem's Lot..." he murmured to himself. He hadn't even read the title of the book before he picked it up. "That'll work."
Amory's cheeks darkened softly when he mentioned that he didn't understand why anyone wouldn't want to talk to him. "It's complicated... Well, it's not complicated. I just don't want to talk about it, in all honesty. It doesn't help that most people get irritated with my bookish habits anyways." He laughed softly because it was true; people did get annoyed that he actually liked to read and study at the other schools he went to. His eyes grazed over the words in the book, mouthing them as he read. He'd read the book many times before, but he never minded re-reading a book. It gave him something to do as well as an escape. "I bet it could get annoying, no? People thinking you can't do anything for yourself just because you can't see. I wouldn't know myself. I don't think you're helpless, of course. If you were, you wouldn't have made it down to the library on your own. The only person I've ever gotten pity from is my father, but that's understandable, no?"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Just my father." Amory agreed, flipping the page of his book. That's honestly all he had most of his life; his father. Well, there had been another person who cared about him, but there was no reason to talk about that. "Father's family didn't like me for reasons I don't feel like explaining. We really don't talk to them anymore. They all act like a bunch of prats, in all honesty. I never did anything to them. Well, anything that I know of or can control."
The teen watched Gaki read quietly, having sat his own book down. He'd always found Braille so interesting for some reason even unknown to himself. He felt the same way about sign language. The way that humans had found for the mute to talk and the blind to read just fascinated him. Realizing he'd been sitting there with some person he really didn't know, he blushed darkly and sighed. "Me being here isn't bothering you, is it? I know it must be rather strange that someone you don't even know is just sitting here, talking. You're probably only half-listening. Then again, I'm even worse when I'm deep into a book. You know, I'm not even sure why I'm saying half the things I am. Maybe it's because I don't get to talk to people often?"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory sighed in agreement to Gaki saying he needed a friend. He knew it was true and he'd hated it. He didn't want to have to rely on anyone ever again. The teen couldn't help but smile when the other mentioned gremlins that liked to bite at his ankles. "I should probably be heading up to my room as well. I have plants I really need to water and such." He assumed the other wondered why he had plants in his room, but he decided not to mention anything about it himself. He started stuffing his books in his own bag, not wanting to think about what Gaki said before.
Taking notice of the books in Gaki's arms preventing him from using his cane, he took the books softly from the man's hand, much to both of their shock. "Let me help you with these. Lord knows we don't need you falling on your a**. I already knocked you down once. If you fall again you'll end up hurting it. I'll help you get these up to your room then go to my own." The teen wasn't sure if he was doing it out of pity or not, but he just wanted to be helpful. He sat the books down to grab his book bag and sling it over his shoulder. "Come on. We'll take the elevator. It's much faster that way." Honestly, he didn't expect he and Gaki to ever be friends. He still felt as though he needed to make up to him for knocking him over.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory glared slightly at Gaki for his smirk but managed not to make a comment about it yet. He didn't see the point. What was so surprising about an earth elemental having bloody plants in his room? Then again, Gaki didn't know that yet. "Honestly, I really wouldn't want to see you try to walk down or up stairs. It's bad enough for me to try without my glasses. Now, let's find that elevator."
He lead Gaki to the elevator at a slightly slow pace, the other teen following next to him. He tried to remember where the elevator was as he usually took the stairs. He held the books tightly in his arms as they walked around and sighed in relief when he found it. "There the damn thing is." he murmured, walking in while Gaki followed. Sitting the books down on the floor of the elevator to give himself a break, he turned to the other and frown. "By the way, since I noticed that smirk of yours, you must think me having plants is funny. I'm an earth elemental and I like gardening. I don't understand what's so funny about anyone liking plants and keeping them in their room, what whatever. Now, what floor is your room on?"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory glared at him weakly and shook his head. "Alright then, Mr. Neko." he returned, feeling a tiny smirk on his lips that usually wasn't there. "If anything and everything is strange to you, that makes you very strange." He quickly pressed the second floor button and returned to his spot next to Gaki's books. "I'm on the third floor. I'll just head up right after we get up to y-" His voice stopped when the elevator gave a hard jerk and he gripped onto a railing inside. He saw the other grab onto the rail as well and held on for the next jerks.
After a while, the elevator came to a complete halt on the second floor. The door wasn't opening at all and it ticked Amory off more than anything. "Well, isn't this bloody perfect? We're stuck in a damn elevator and the door won't open. I swear, this school costs so much to go to and they can't even keep their elevator up to standard!?" He walked over to the emergency phone and growled in anger when it didn't work. "Great. Bloody great! It's not as if things can get any worse. The phone isn't working." When the lights inside the elevator started to flicker, Amory pinched the bridge of his nose. "I swear, if those bloody lights go out, I'm going to murder someone when I get out of here!" He didn't know if he'd ever been so angry in his life. He'd kept his feelings bottled up for so long that they just seemed to explode.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory rubbed at his temples and nodded, groaning in frustration. "I suppose you're right. Throwing a fit isn't going to honestly help. Honestly, I don't know what came over me. I usually don't react to accidents like this." The green teen settled down on the floor and sighed into his hands, closing his eyes. He knew he'd just made a complete fool of himself in front of Gaki, but he wan't in the mood to care. He was trapped in an elevator and he loathed closed spaces. If the lights went out he'd probably have an episode. Looking up at Gaki, he said in a soft voice, "Well, at least if the lights go out it won't bother you. Though, I don't think I need any more stress. Maybe I should try to read something..." He fumbled through his book bag for one of his text books, anything that could distract him.
He was only sitting there for moments when he started to worry. No one knew how long it would take for someone else to find them and he honestly didn't want to be stuck in an elevator with anyone; let alone someone who'd already teased him for his gardening. He looked back up at the neko and sighed. "You might as well find something to preoccupy yourself with. We could be in here for quite some time" He managed to hide the fact that he was worried to the best of his abilities and went back to reading his book, mouthing the words as he went.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory laid his head against the wall of the elevator as he read, trying to concentrate on that rather than the fact that he was stuck in an elevator. The lights' flickering had stopped, much to his delight, making it easier for him to concentrate. Occasionally, his eyes would flicker to Gaki, watching him read. Deciding he might as well talk to the other a bit as they sat in the stuck elevator, he asked, "What book is that? Is it good?" He felt another sneeze coming on and groaned, reaching into his book bag for his tissues. He sneezed loudly and groaned again, closing his eyes. "God, I loathe being sick. I hope this sneezing stops soon." Being sick was definitely not enjoyable for the teenager, especially since he was sickly looking enough as it was. He didn't need people looking at him with pitiful looks just because he had a cold.
Slowly, his book closed and he put it in his book bag before rummaging through one of the pockets. He sighed in relief when he found the chocolate bar he was looking for in one of the pockets and opened it. "Oh, where are my manners? Do you want half of this chocolate bar. I swear, my father sends me more chocolates and sweets than I can eat in my entire life."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Oh, I think I've read that one. They have it in the library. It's a pretty good book, but you are correct; it is a bit cliche." He concentrated on the bar of chocolate in his hand as he broke it into pieces, smiling in content. When he was angry or stressed, chocolate and books were one of the few things that would calm him down
Amory nodded and noticed the cringe from the other teen. "He must really not like sweets." he thought, nibbling on a piece of chocolate. "Alright, then. Just thought I'd ask. My father owns a sweets company so he pretty much sends me chocolates all the time. Not that I mind, of course. I suppose I like sweets because I remember him making them for me as long as I can remember. No shame in not liking them, though."
Honestly, the teenager had no idea why he was being so nice to Gaki. Sure, he felt bad for knocking the poor neko other, but he usually wasn't this talkative. Maybe he had some small urge to become friends with the other, even if it was highly unlikely it would ever happen. "So, someone canceled the order for your text books? I still think that's completely stupid. You haven't been here too long, have you? I just transfered here last month myself."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory nodded softly and jumped when the other closed his book shut loudly, at least to him. He ended up hitting his head on the wall and groaned softly, trying to put a smile back on his face. "Sorry about that. Sensitive ears and all made that book shutting sound really louder than it was. Doesn't help that I was concentrating on my book and chocolate either. You're right tough. I don't know who's ludicrous idea it was to cancel your book order, though. I suppose it's hard for them to understand that, you know, someone who can't see might need some Braille text books when he doesn't have or doesn't want anyone to read to him. Idiots."
Suddenly his head snapped back up to look at Gaki and he said with a smile, "You know, whenever you want someone other than the gremlins to read to you, I'd be happy to. I have enough free time to do that instead of being in the library all the time. I love books, but staying in one place for so long gets dreadfully boring." He wasn't sure and didn't care too much if the other took up his offer. He just thought he could use someone who doesn't have a monotone voice reading to him.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory stumbled into the library, clutching his book bag against his side and a cane in his other hand. He'd had a rather... interesting morning putting his things in his room. He hadn't gotten to meet his roommate, but he had these little things running about in his room. It had taken ages to make sure they didn't mess up his things, much to his annoyance. Tripping over his trunk when he was finished unpacking it and noticed the things didn't help at all. "When I see my roommate, I'm going to ask him what those are." he thought as he tried to find an empty table, not really wanting to deal with people at the moment.
It seemed as though the front of the library was too crowded, at least for his taste, so he limped to the back, hoping not to find anyone to bother him. As he was looking around in one direction, he managed to run into a bookshelf, hitting his head rather hard. "Hell!" he whispered harshly, rubbing his head. There was small traces of blood on his hand, causing him to groan. "Perfect, just perfect!"
He sat down at the next table he saw, not noticing the other sitting there until he was already seated. "Oh. Didn't notice anyone sitting here, sorry. I needed to sit down before I hurt myself worse." He reached into his book bag and pulled out one of his books and some tissue, holding it to his bleeding forehead. "I'm Amory, by the way." He noticed the book in the other's hand and smiled. "So, what are you reading?" Only half expecting the other to respond, he opened his own book, 'Salem's Lot' and started where he left off.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory smiled when the other mentioned what he was reading. "I haven't read that book in ages. Maybe I'll check it out when you're finished with it. I'm reading 'Salem's Lot myself. I started it over the summer and decided I might as well finish it before I pick up anything else." The teen didn't know what possessed him to talk to the other, but he seemed alright, though his shyness made him seem more social than he was. "Well, nice to meet you, Sazari." He winced at the sting of pain in his forehead and smiled toward the other. "Stupid bookshelves; always jumping out in front of me." he joked, fumbling with his bookmark. "I swear, between tripping over my own luggage and running into bookshelves, I'm going to be in the nurses office in a coma by the end of the day.
He realized that the other couldn't see him too well in the dimly lit room and sighed softly, knowing that's why the already timid boy hadn't ran off. "So, what year are you in? I'm in 10th year myself, but I'm short for my age. Could probably pass for a lower year if I wanted to." It seemed as though he'd always been short compared to everyone else his age, much to his annoyance. Being teased for other things was bad enough; he didn't need his height to go against him as well. Though, it did make it easier to dunk when someone tried to punch you in the face.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory smiled and nodded. "Yes, it is a good book. I should have finished it over the summer, but I've been so busy lately. Father needed my help most of the summer. It may have been bothersome, but it was at least something to do. Helping him with costs and such for supplies isn't too exciting, but it is pretty nice when I get to taste his new creations. He owns all kinds of sweets factories and such. At least he got to work with something he likes." The boy felt like rambling on about candy and such, but he managed to control himself. He wasn't able to concentrate on his book while talking to someone. "9th... I see." he murmured, not minding that the other was a year below him.
When the other mentioned how he sounded accident prone, he laughed quietly and smiled. "Yes... I definitely am. The only thing I haven't done to myself is burnt myself, shockingly enough. I'm in B6... I think that was the number. Lord knows I couldn't think straight in there with those little things running about. They must be my roommates', who I haven't gotten to meet yet. Scared the living hell out of me, they did. That's why I came down to the library to read. I couldn't concentrate with them bouncing around. What's your room number?" He noticed the other hiding behind the bookshelf and sighed. "Are you alright? If I'm making you uncomfortable, I'll take my leave." Looking around the room, he asked, "Why is it so dark here anyways? I can see alright, but it's far too dark."
Pulling his tissue away from his forehead, he winced at the amount of blood. "I think I have some bandages in my bag somewhere. Honestly, I might even have a first aid kit in there. This thing is more like a purse than a book bag at times, I say! There is definitely more than school stuff in here." He started to rummage through his bag, hoping he had put some bandages inside just for this occasion. He usually had some, but he didn't know if he used them all up yet or not.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory smiled at the other and nodded. "Well, I definitely love eating sweets, if that means anything. I like making them as well, but eating them is so much nicer." He couldn't help the smile that played on his lips at the thought of sweets. He'd definitely have to find some when he went to his room. He'd locked them up in his trunk so the things couldn't get to them. He hoped the annoying little bugger didn't mess with any of his things. If they killed one of his plants, there would be hell to pay.
When the other boy walked closer to him, he could almost feel his shock over him being green. The younger boy definitely looked human himself. He hadn't really noticed his clothes, though he wasn't exactly dressed up himself. He didn't see the point if he was just going to get blood all over them. "I could really use some help... thank you." He smiled when the other reached out his hand to him and took it with a smile. "It's nice to meet you too. Don't worry; my skin color isn't a disease nor is it contagious in any way. It just... is." He couldn't help but think the other was going to run off at any second, leaving him
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The slight stinging in his palm didn't even faze Amory, as he actually was used to it. Chuckling, he said, "Yes. If your as accident prone as I, you need to carry quite a lot around with you. Painkillers, gauze, alcoholic patches, and more... Oh! My head. I hit it on a bookshelf. I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing and ran right into it. I'm just lucky I didn't break my glasses." The other teen's slight uncomfortable reactions didn't seem to faze Amory, due to having to deal with them all of his life.
"I'm guessing you're human, no?" he asked abruptly, making himself blush. "Er, sorry. Out of the blue, I know. Well, my father is an earth elemental, but he looks like a normal person. I must have inherited my looks from my mother. You just seem a little... put off by what I am. Not that I blame you, of course. I used to go to public schools and I got much worse than a little stuttering and stares." He winced when Sazari started to clean the wound on his head, groaning softly. "I should really watch where I'm going more often. I don't need to end up in the nurse's office my first day here."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory laughed and shook his head. "I didn't mean it like that. Humans aren't boring by any means. You're just one of the few humans who didn't run off or call me names when they saw me. Well I have some sort of power over plants. It's kind of difficult to explain, of course. No one actually asked me about it since I never really told anyone. I'm not even sure why I told you... Thank you for helping me with my head, still. I really need to pay attention to my surroundings."
He sat there for a moment, rubbing the bandage on his forehead before suddenly looking to Sazari. "Honestly, being human can't be so bad. Humans and creatures who look like normal humans are bloody lucky. You don't get people constantly hounding you, asking what kind of disease you have or where your flying monkeys are. I swear, if I ever hear those two words together again, I'll scream. Apparently comparing me to the Wicked Witch of the West is so amusing..." The teen blushed and held his forehead in his hand laughing. "Sorry. I'm rambling, aren't I?"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory sat in his room, trying his best to concentrate on his book. It was a rather troublesome thing to accomplish when gremlins decided to mess with your things. Being obsessive over where his things went and already being angry and stressed from hurting himself again didn't help either. His brow furrowed as he concentrated, his mind doing it's best to ignore the chatter around him. His head was pressed against the backboard of his bed as he read.
It didn't take long for him to bookmark his book and sit it down in frustration. He climbed out of his bed and took one of his books from a gremlin, kneeling down to it's level. "Look," he said, "we're going to have to share this room for quite some time, and I'd rather like to not have to lock up all my things to keep them from being bothered. I have, like you do, a specific way of aranging my things and I don't like it to be bothered. I won't mess with my roommates things, so don't mess with mine. You can arrange his, but I'll arrange mine." He couldn't believe he was trying to be civil with something that already annoyed him, but it was worth a shot. He stood up from his position on the floor and walked over to his suitcase, gathering his books and other belongings from it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory sat on his bed, re-bandaging his hand quietly. He'd managed to cut it once again in his rush to unpack his things, not knowing one of his extra pairs of glasses had not been put in it's case and broke in the suitcase. He had been in such a hurry to put his belongings in his trunk when the gremlins kept bothering them, he didn't think to put the glasses he'd been cleaning in their case. "I'm just lucky I have extra pairs other than that one..." he whispered, knowing he was extremely likely to break another pair in his rush to do things.
After he finished cleaning up his hand and re-bandaging it, he started to work on organizing his things again, being extremely careful of the broken glass in his trunk. After getting all of his books, clothes, and other belongings precisely where he wanted them, he started to clean the broken glass out of his trunk. "How can I be so stupid? Oh, just put a pair of glasses in a trunk without it's case and under your books. That is definitely a good idea!"
The teen continued his soft grumbling to himself until he heard the door open. Looking up, he saw another teen. He assumed he was his roommate and smiled toward the other. "Hello." His voice was soft, not wanting to startle the other who couldn't see him from his position next to his bed. "You must be my roommate, no? I'm Amory." The boy quickly stood up and got a better look at the other. Remembering seeing a cane next to the other's bed, he realized he must be blind. "Not screaming 'hello' was a good idea then." Dumping the shards of broken glass into the trash bin nearby, he sat on his bed and grabbed the last thing he needed to set somewhere. With a tiny smile, he placed the framed photo of he and Till on his bedside table. "You might want to be careful with that trash bin. There's some broken glass in there."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory couldn't help but chuckle at the other trying to sound worried. "Yes. Trash bin. We really don't need anyone else getting cut up. I'll do that enough for the both of us. I accidentally broke one of my extra pair of glasses in a hurry. Not that you care or need to know about that, of course." He noticed how quiet his voice was and mentally slapped himself. He was already out from the other side of the bed, so it's not like he could shock the other now that he knew where he was. Sighing, he turned to the other and smiled. "I'm mumbling, aren't I? You know where I am now, so it doesn't matter if I talk like a normal person. I didn't want to jump from behind the bed and scare someone to death on accident, you know. I do that enough as it is." He hadn't realized the other might have thought he did it because he was blind.
When one of the gremlins brought a book to Gaki, his assumption that he was blind was confirmed, as the fact that they were his. "So, they are here with you? I was hoping they were my roommates and not some infestation of... what are they exactly? I'm not exactly used to being around people that aren't human, you know." The boy still hadn't taken notice of the cat ears and tail on the other as he talked. For now the other was normal to him. It was a little easier to ignore ears and tail when you looked like a walking vegetable. "I didn't know what to think when I came in here and saw them. It didn't help that I was having a bad day to begin with and it just kept getting worse." Sitting down on his bed, he looked at the other in his own and watched him. A thin blush spread across his face when he realized how much he was talking. "S-Sorry. I'm usually not this talkative. I tend to blab when I do and make myself seem like an utter fool." His attention moved to his books nearby, grabbing one for himself to read. "So, what's your name?"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory smiled slightly and nodded. "It's nice to meet you Gaki." he murmured, concentrating on his own book. He had a feeling that the other only heard half of what he said, and he didn't mind. It made him seem a bit less like a fool, he thought.
Suddenly something came to mind; when he saw the books that the gremlins were arranging earlier, they weren't Braille. "Do your gremlins read to you or something?" he asked softly, not wanting to cause the other to be mad at him. When the other looked up, with a slightly angry expression, he scooted back a bit on his bed. "Sorry. I was just asking. I saw your text books earlier and I just assumed... Unless something happened to your order of Braille books, of course. It's not my place to intrude, though. I probably shouldn't have asked. I don't need my roommate to absolutely hate me by the first day. Disliking me would be enough."
The boy groaned slightly at the thought of all the people who hated him back home. He didn't need being at this school to start off like that as well. At least this teen would have a reason to hate him; because he annoyed him. He couldn't control the fact of what he looked like. He then realized the other didn't know what he looked like at all. That was definitely a nice change of pace from being gawked at like some kind of fool.
It was then that he noticed the other's ears and tail. Staring for a moment, he turned away with a soft laugh. Catching the other's attention again, he shifted uncomfortably in his spot. "I didn't notice the ears and tail earlier, that's all. You think someone who spends most of their time around humans would notice that, no? Maybe I should get my eyes checked..."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory read over his textbook underneath the shade of a tree, near the barn. The horses sounds didn't bother Amory at all, despite how annoyed he was. The gremlins in his room kept moving his books no matter where he put them or how many times he told them not to. It didn't help that his roommate kept telling him to put the books where they can't reach them when he already tried that. His roommate did annoy him, but he wasn't that bad, in his opinion. It was just the gremlins! They'd became so bothersome that day that he had to go outside and get some fresh air and finish studying. The library was far too stuffy and the earth elemental would rather be outside with trees and other plants he could almost blend into that in a stuffy library.
As he was reading over his German textbook, he barely noticed when a golf cart rode by, his concentration on his book being more important. Though he really didn't want to deal with any other students, he kept his spot under the tree, trying his best to concentrate. Other than Gaki and the boy he'd met in the library, he hadn't had much contact with other students outside of classes. The surprising decrease in odd stares pleased him greatly, as did the lack of teasing. He didn't stay in one place long enough for anyone to do anything anyways.
He closed his book and looked toward the barn, finally paying enough attention to see who was at the barn. He really didn't recognize him and didn't want to risk making the older teen angry, but he couldn't help his curiosity as he watched. He noticed the other's polo wear and remembered hearing whispers of a polo club. Amory had never played polo, and he really didn't know if he wanted to try. Shrugging, he packed his books into his bag and relaxed, hoping his green skin would blend in with his surroundings and the other wouldn't notice him.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory's eyes shot open when he heard the other speak to him. Cautiously, he took Jacob's hand and smiled slightly. "Hello, Jacob. I'm Amory Remington." He wasn't too surprised that the other saw him. Even if he was green, he didn't exactly look like a tree or any other plant. He couldn't help but be a little happy that someone decided to talk to him for once.
Chucking at the horse's actions he laughed, also noticing the boy seemingly trying to analyze his skin. "It's nice to meet William as well. Apparently, even a green person cannot blend into grass. The again, it would help if I wasn't leaned up against a tree, wouldn't it? If I'm out during club day, I might stop by. I've never actually played polo before, just watched it." He fumbled with his tie nervously, not used to talking to people. It's not that he didn't like people, it's just they didn't seem to like him so he learnt to 'not like' them as well. "So, why did you decide to come out here in the middle of the day? I had to get out of my room. It's too stuffy in there any why would I want to be inside during such a nice day?" He felt no need to mention his roommates little helpers as he talked to Jacob.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory's eyes narrowed in concentration and he smiled slightly, standing up. "Since you take care of them yourself, I suppose you have the right to brag about it. I don't know many people who would take care of so many horses by themselves. You know what, sure. I could definitely use something to do other than studying and reading. It will give me a reason to be out of my room as well. I can't stand to be in there too long or I get... annoyed. I warn you though; I haven't ridden a horse since I was a little kid. Well, at least I'm more patient with animals than most people. They seem to like me better too."
Amory didn't understand why he was being so friendly with someone he barely knew, but he really didn't care too much at the time. Of course, he still didn't want to get close to people like he had before, but that didn't mean he should completely seclude himself from society. It was nice to have someone actually talk to him to begin with. He didn't want to admit that being alone made him upset sometimes. He didn't want to admit anything that made him upset. With slightly bright eyes, he looked toward Jacob and smiled wider. "Let's go saddle up another horse then."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory smiled as he listened to Jacob go on about the horses. He wasn't necessarily ammused by him talking to and about his horses, but it made him smile for some reason even unknown to himself. "You really love horses, don't you? I'm the same way with my plants, so to each their own. At least talking to someone who can make a sound back makes more sense than talking to a plant!"
He made quick, but careful and gentle, work of the saddle, trying to fix it exactly like Jacob had told him to. He'd never saddled a horse, so he was afraid he'd screw up. Sure, it seemed easy, but Amory wasn't sure if it would be easy for him and he didn't want to make a fool of himself so soon. The other watched him, making sure he got it right. It didn't seem like the other didn't trust him to put it on right, but just wanted to make sure he did. He could tell that he took his horses seriously. When he got close to his ears, he laughed softly and looked up at him. "You might not want to get so close to these ears. They might poke an eye out."
It didn't take him long to get the saddle on to both of their standards. "I managed to not make a complete fool of myself, oh joy. Now, how do you get on her? As I said, it's been a long time." For some reason, he felt wrong calling the horse an it. He knew very well that Sofie was a female and he would call her that.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory took a deep breath with the horse started moving, trying to relax. The moment it started moving, he felt tense but knew he had to relax, so he tried his best to do so. He hadn't got another word in with Jacob before he went off to get this person, Julian, a horse. The boy tried to concentrate on riding the horse and nothing else. Besides, if he started imagining that the other teen was staring at him, he'd loose focus and end up doing something to make a fool of himself. "I don't want to end up hurting myself or the horse the first time I ride." he murmured to himself, concentrating ahead of him. He wondered a bit why it was taking Jacob so long to get Julian a horse, but kept most of his mind on the task in front of him.
Jacob was right; it did feel a bit odd at first, but he was starting to get used to it. He wouldn't say that if felt like having sex, but he hadn't done that much to begin with to know. He was trying to get the hang of it before Jacob got back, and he didn't think he was doing too bad all considering. He practiced turning, being extremely gentle when he shifted the reigns. He didn't want to hurt the horse after all. Relaxed considerably since he'd gotten on the horse, he continued to ride around for a bit, not getting too far away from the barn.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory looked over to Julian when he asked why he was green. He couldn't control the laugh that escaped him and shook his head. "Honestly? I don't even know myself. You know as much about why I'm green as I do. I just know I... am." He didn't look too startled by Julian's abrupt question. He'd been asked far worse than that, most definitely. The question was a little out of no where, and rude to boot. He didn't know what he did to make the other ask him that. Maybe it was just because he was there.
"It most likely came from my mother, though. Father looks completely normal and I don't even know what my mother looked like." The teen shrugged and shook his head, gold eyes still locked on the other teen. He found it rather odd to talk even a bit about his mother in front of a stranger. It's not like he needed to know that, but Julian did ask why he was green and she was the most probable answer. When he caught the other watching his slightly odd riding, he sighed softly and smiled. "It's my first time on a horse in years. Father used to have horses but he had to sell them when we moved. Neither of us had the time to take care of them and he didn't want to hire someone to do it."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Never. It's not like I really like to talk about it, you know, but it's the only plausible reason I can think of for me being green. That and I'm a horrible liar." Amory concluded with a shrug, leaving it at that. Just mentioning his mother was fine, but he didn't like to talk to far into it. "No, I don't come to the stables often. I just needed to get out of the school for a while and this is where I ended up. Staying inside too much isn't a good habit of mine anyways. You probably saw me in classes or the library if you did see me at all. Though, is there really anyone you could mistake me for?"
When Julian asked if he and Jacob were friends, he rose an eyebrow and shook his head. "Er, no, I'm not exactly friends with him. I was sitting over there reading when he came down here." The teen pointed to a tree nearby and chuckled. "It's pretty easy to notice the green person leaned up against a tree, you know. He asked me if I wanted to ride and I accepted." He tried not to mention he wasn't exactly friends with anyone. It's not like he really had to tell anyone that for them to know he was a social outcast. Turning back to Julian, he noticed him glancing to the barn and frowned. He didn't know why he was asking him all these questions and he didn't feel like pressing on the issue. Julian didn't seem like the type for small talk to him. "There's probably something going on that I'm completely unaware of." Sighing, he regained his voice and asked, "Is there any particular reason you're asking me these questions? You don't seem like the type for small talk, you know."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory just stared at the other as he rode away and sighed. The boy's glare didn't seem to phase him. He was used for that. For some reason, though, upsetting him seemed to make Amory upset as well. He hadn't meant to upset the other, honestly. With a sudden burst of courage, he rode over closer to where the other was. "Look," he shouted, "I didn't mean to upset you, alright? There was no need to get defensive. I really don't need to know why you're talking to me, whether it's to just chat or for some other reason. The question just blurted out and I was a bit curious. People don't talk to me often, so of course I question their motives. I think I've had more conversations at this school that I have in my entire life. Now, can we pretend like I didn't ask that question because I don't need someone hating me so soon into the school year. I need to work my way up to that. By the way, I'm Amory. I heard Jacob call you 'Julian', so I can assume that's your name."
The green boy smiled slightly and watched the other, knowing full and well he could hear him. Though he didn't care too much he asked the question, he didn't mean to upset the other. He fumbled with the reins in his hands and sighed, closing his eyes. "Way to go Amory. Someone tries to talk to you for once and you upset them. You need to learn some people skills." He didn't notice the slight colour tinting the other's cheeks from where he was.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory smiled when he heard Jacob, turning to look at him. The smile was weakened slightly when he heard how quiet and... odd Jacob's voice was. When he started talking to Julian, he knew for sure that they knew each other. Then, he remembered Julian's questions and sighed, finding many more reasons of why he may have asked them.
"Oh, I'm doing great, Jacob. Well, great by my standards, of course. I haven't hurt myself yet." He didn't want to admit how accident prone he was. He was much more embarrassed by that than his appearance and his hobbies. "Honestly, the only reason I haven't is probably because I would end up hurting Sofie as well. None of us really want that to happen.
As he stood there, he tried to pretend he didn't upset Julian and not ask Jacob what might be wrong "He could just be tired!" he convinced himself, uncurling and curling his fingers around the reins. His good mood was slightly hurt when he realized he'd have to go back to his room later that night and face the gremlins and his fire obsessed, much to his dislike and fear, roommate
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory had a feeling that the other was just telling him everything was fine because he didn't feel like arguing about it, and he didn't blame him. When he was asked if riding the horse was like sex, he laughed softly and shook his head 'no'. "I honestly don't think so, but to each their own. It felt strange, but that's probably because I haven't been on a horse since I was little."
He had no inkling of what Julian was suggesting to Jacob. He could notice some things about people, but he was by no means perfect at it. "You know, I wonder what other clubs there are going to be at Club Day. I don't pay enough attention to things like that much." He thought about it for a moment and shrugged slightly. He really wanted to be up in his dorm room, but he was terrified his roommate might be in there playing with fire again and burn them both alive. He really didn't need another incident like that in his lifetime. He left the other two for just a moment to get his book bag before coming back to where they stood.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory smiled at Jacob and chuckled. "Heh... basketball. I'm horrible at most sports. That's not too surprising though, is it?" When the other teen mentioned his horse being pregnant again, he reached up to pet the horse that was sniffing him curiously. "I'm sure you already told me that, Jacob. Well, I know for sure you told me she was pregnant, but I'm not sure you told me who the father was.
Looking down at his watch, he frowned slightly and looked at the other two. "I should really get back to my dorm sometime today, despite how nice it is outside. I have cleaning to do and I have to make sure my roommate didn't burn down our room yet." The green teen's eye twitched at the thought of his roommate and his insane compulsion to play with fire. He'd usually leave the room when he did it as to not admit he was terrified of it. Sighing, he took a deep breath and tried not to think of that neko, his gremlins, and fire for just one moment. "I'll see you two some other time, yes? Good bye Jacob, Julian. I'm in room B6 if you ever need anything. It's not like you will, of course." He waved at the two of them quickly and headed off, mumbling to himself softly about Gaki. He didn't understand that boy at all.
It didn't take him long to get up to his room, and he was delighted to find the room still intact and unburnt, most of his things being where he left them as well. With a groan, he tossed his bookbag onto his bed before rearranging the few moved items. "Why must you move my things?" he asked the gremlins. Even though he couldn't see them, he knew they were there. "I may not despise cleaning, but by God it gets annoying to have to move my things back to their proper spot every day."
After very little time, he was finished rearranging his things and cleaning. With a sigh of relief, he sat on the bed and started to pull out his books to study more. He still couldn't get Gaki and his antics off his mind, though. He was always terrified that the boy would catch their room on fire. He wasn't sure of what he was afraid would happen afterward, but he still didn't like the proposition of his room burning, especially with all of his photos and personal items in there. His eyes moved to the picture frame sitting on his bedside table and he smiled sadly, grabbing it and just staring. He could feel his stomach churn painfully, but he ignored it and continued to hold the frame in his hands.
Without thinking, he reached underneath his bed and grabbed a locked, white, large scrap book. He pulled on the necklace hidden underneath his shirt and used the key attached to open the book, sighing as he did. It was full to the end of pictures, notes, anything he could find that had belonged to Till. He even had some notes he'd written to him himself, the other teen having kept everything Amory gave him locked away in a box. His hands were slightly shaky as he looked through the book, breathing slightly laboured.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory stood in the bathroom with a clenched jaw, trying to brush his hair. To be honest, he felt like s**t. He had another one of those nightmares again. Watching Till die for the fifty millionth time was taking it's toll on him. The fact that his roommate seemed to purposely play with fire around him just made matters much worse. At first, it wasn't so bad and he could ignore it, but he was getting close to his breaking point and most certainly did not want to throw a fit over it in front of Gaki. Had enough issues with the other teen as it was.
After cleaning up the bathroom, he tossed the dirty clothes into the hamper and walked out of the room with the most control he could muster. Entering the room, he heard his roommate mumbling slightly about his gremlins. A tiny smile spread across his face when he realized they must be missing. He'd told the other that he should keep a closer watch, figure of speech of course, on the little things. Of course, he didn't wish the other misfortune, but that didn't mean he had to like him.
"Do you want me to help you look for them?" He asked as he entered the room, collapsing on his bed. He was glad for a moment that the other couldn't see him because the nightmares were still running through his mind and being reflected on his face. "Stop thinking about them!" he told himself, knowing that having his mind on them so often wasn't helping. "I hope they don't stay missing for too long. I'm almost used to the little things."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory glared at Gaki and sighed. He knew that he'd used a bad choice of words, but the neko didn't have to get angry at him over it. He was already in a foul mood and Gaki was just going to make it worse. "I was just trying to help you, you insolent little twerp! You know damn well I didn't mean it like that. There's no need to treat people who actually want to help you like s**t." He couldn't help but feel a little hurt at Gaki's treatment of him. Never had he done anything to purposely upset the other, but the neko seemed to live to upset him. He really didn't like fighting with Gaki, but the two of them just seemed to rub each other the wrong way constantly.
He laid back on his bed and groaned, wishing he'd tried to get a single dorm room. He could feel his scrapbook underneath his pillow through it, bring Till to his mind and just making matters worse. While the other was looking for his clothes, he pulled the scrapbook from underneath his pillow and opened it. When he saw the pressed rose inside he smiled weakly and ran his fingers over it. He and Till had started making the scrapbook when they were friends, so it was the most precious thing in the world to him. As he looked through the book again for the thousandth time, he glanced toward Gaki every once in a while. He decided that if the boy needed help with anything, he'd have to ask him from then on. Closing the book, he held it to his chest with a soft sigh. "...miss you." he murmured weakly, closing his eyes. He hated those stupid nightmares for making him that upset.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amory tucked his scrapbook underneath his bed, hidden away, and sat up on the bed. His eyes narrowed slightly at Gaki's smoking hand and his fingers tightened on the sheets beneath him. "Actually, I wasn't pretending, but thank you for assuming I'm that heartless. I wouldn't pull a stunt like that even if I could. I'm a horrible liar. Besides, why would I want to tick you off more? You already hate me enough as it is."
For some reason, even unknown to himself, he felt angry that the other hated him. He didn't know what he did to upset the other so often, but he hated it so. With the other teen's hand smoking, he was almost tempted to throw water on him. That would just be too cruel, he'd decided. He knew the other would not like that one bit. He himself would not like having water thrown on him either, so he wasn't going to do it.
Amory felt like he was going to explode. Sure, he knew that Gaki had it damn hard, he understood that. He also knew he had it hard, maybe not as hard, himself. the other had mentioned things that had happened to him in his arguments, but Amory tried to control himself and not say a word about his past. The boy was close to his breaking point, though. Having it all bottled up inside and the constant nightmares made him just want to have the other know so he could pick on him over it already.
"You're not the only person who's had people pretend they care, you know. You're not even the only person in this room. Of course, I'm not going to pretend like I've had it worse than you, because that's completely untrue. It happened a lot, though. Sometimes they'd just want something from me and sometimes they'd just do it to hurt me later. I was just easy to take advantage of because I wanted friends and someone other than my father to care about me even a little. Even my extended family hates me and my father for keeping me. The fact that when they did betray me, I did nothing helped as well. I tried to stand up for myself only once and I ended up expelled because of the person who caused it! I've had two people not betray me out of everyone that's 'cared'. I liked it better when people actually admitted they hated me. You really don't need to know about this, though." He tried to stop there. He didn't feel like going any further into things the other really didn't need to know.
Climbing off of the bed, he walked over to the other and looked the other straight in the eye. He didn't look angry anymore. "I didn't mean to upset you, you know. I honestly wouldn't dream of pretending to care about someone as I've had it done enough to me as it is. Though... I can understand, little, why you're upset some. I'm not going to pretend like I understand you completely. Relying on the gremlins must be dreadful. I honestly couldn't imagine it." He was honestly hoping the other didn't get angry at him and start lopping fire balls his way.
