A Touch of History
This will mostly contain history stuff.
* For the record, the Santa Claus melon is tasty, but I like the honeyloupe better. Mmmm... frankenmelons.

* I'm trying to decide if I'm sick or if it's allergies + drug reaction. I'm all around crappy enough for the former, but logic suggest the later. Swimming has been bad this week. Pool's closed until Tuesday, which makes next week ugly. Let's hope the extra rest helps.

* The Supreme Court ruled against public election financing on the grounds it violates the free speech of the rich to let the less wealth candidates be heard. Justice Kagen wrote a dissent pointing out that public campaign financing protects the free speech of the minority. This will make the abuses from Citizens united worse. *head desk* The law that was struck down was a ballot measure passed directly by the voters of Arizona in the wake of a particyularly wide spread bribery/corruption scandal.

* Thaddeus McCotter is officially in the presidential race. This will likely be comedy gold.

* RM, The erosion of women's civil rights in Kansas: http://www.kansan.com/news/2011/jun/30/new-laws-threaten-access-abortions-kansas/

* We're nearly a month in on the 4th of July fireworks, and the cats are done with it already. hector's skeletal as it's stressing him out too much to eat sufficient for his activity level. The third volley of the evening led to them all breaking and running. I'm worried what another month of this will do to cat health and sanity. I like fireworks as much as the next person, but I wish 4th of July were a week long holiday, like it was when I was a kid, instead of 2-3 months long. It must be nightmarish for combat veterans.

* Happy Canada Day!

* I remember the feather craze back in the '70's, and how nasty they got after a while with hair oil. It sounds like this type of feather is washable, so it makes sense it's more popular. It sounds like it sucks for the fly fishermen, but these things happen. Poor roosters, I say.: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/29/sports/when-fashion-meets-fishing-the-feathers-fly.html?_r=4&nl=todaysheadlines&emc=tha27

* It's not about the kids: http://www.sparkindarkness.com/2011/07/in-bewildering-fashion-some-fool-has.html
