The Length of Forever
6-14-11

The cool breeze blows
The cheerful birds sing
You hold me in your arms
Ready to keep me there for eternity
I can feel your heart against my ear
Beating in sync with my own pounding chest
If only this could last forever

The fluffy snow falls
The early sun sets
You hold my hands in yours
Sweaty palms locked in an eternal embrace
I can feel your lips perfectly against mine
Don't pinch me, I must be dreaming*
If only this could last forever

My eyes open to the light
My body gets ready for the day
You pass me without a second thought

Day by day I wonder
How long does "forever" really last?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Is the ending of this poem a little ambiguous? I get it, but i wrote it...
It's actually (sadly) based off of real dreams I've had.
*Isn't it bitterly ironic that the only time I've been able to say that, I was dreaming? stare
    Very pretty, yet sad...and I think the end of it sounds fine, and it ties into the rest of the poem. We want happiness to last forever, but it really can't, since all things have to end eventually. I'm no poet, but that's my interpretation...it sounds deep enough to me o3o
