How I got here: Jessalyn was born awkwardly, since her mother, the Red Queen, was banned to the Outlands, and no one was allowed to speak to her. That, and she was bound to the one she hated. Not the kind of mother to expect. Probably would raise a mad child. But hey, here we are now! So yes, very awkward birth.
Since no one was to treat her with respect, the White Queen took her away. That, and the Red Queen couldn't take care of her anyway. So the White Queen took her in, and raised her as her own. The Red Queen didn't even get to name her. Auntie Momma White Queen, I guess.
The White Queen raised Jessalyn as her own. So Jessalyn was raised with the nurturing nature and qualities of her aunt. Very kind and quiet, polite and distinguished. Caring and gentle, yet has her real mother's temper. And evil scheming skills. Those dang genes.
Jessalyn hadn't really found her calling in life yet, or a man. It's one of those things that just trouble you until you can't sleep. Her mother {the aunt; the biological mother has absolutely no idea what's happening with her} had worried some times, but Jessalyn had soothed her otherwise. Her biological mother is probably dead now, maybe from starvation, or just suicide. Heavens know. Jessalyn tries not to worry about it much.
