A Touch of History
This will mostly contain history stuff.

* Secessionist Presidential candidate Rick Perry just implied that they should lynch Ben Bernanke if he does anything to help the economy. He also called his actions treasonous. While he was at itr, he said Obama doesn't love America. Yes, I'm aware of the irony of an open Secessionist calling people traitor and claiming other people don't love their country. Some how I doubt Perry and his supporters do.

He is also in favor of abolishing the income tax to get rid of 80% of the government income and abolishing social security entirely. No explanation for how abolishing income tax will get rid of the debt. No explanation of how firing all those people will create jobs or help the economy. No explanation for why kicking the elderly out to starve on the streets is a good idea.

* I know this stuff looks like strawman made up policy positions, but these are the real things he's running on. Given that he's the Republican darling this year, this is the new Republican mainstream. This is why people like my Mother quit the party.

* You know that thing I've been saying about us, as a country, giving up on the big important projects, the striving to be better, the doing the right thing part? I saw parts of the president's speech today, and he reminded me of why I voted for him in the first place. Thanks, Mr. President. Keep pushing for Congress to do the right thing.

* BTW, the secret service requested two buses, to be fitted for security upgrades, as leasing and repeatedly retrofitting such buses is more expensive than buying them. Like the fleet of security reinforced limousines they own, the buses will likely be in service for a very long time and will pay for themselves relatively quickly. No reinforcing rented buses, no loading and unloading of security equipment, no repeated rental fees. FOX "news" is, of course, against it, and is blaming Obama for being extravagant, even though he had nothing to do with the decision and it saves tax payer money. After all wasting money is always preferable to a solution that solves a problem in the long term.

* Last night, Syrian Government forces slaughtered another group of peaceful protesters, including a two year old child. After all, we know what a threat unarmed toddlers are to fully grown men with guns and armor. They are also still shooting the wounded and anyone coming to rescue them.

I still can think of nothing we can do except be witnesses and not shutting up about it.

* Things are heating up in Libya. There is cause for cautious opitmism, but I am not betting actual money on them taking tripoli just yet. Still fingers crossed, right?

* A reminder of the list of Charities helping east Africa is here: http://gwyd.livejournal.com/1156447.html

* Today, I achieved two of the three things needing doing to fill out the packet of papers. One of the people I needed data from wasn't at the desk and didn't return my calls. It's not the end of the world, it's just a chance at getting money for dental care.

* RM has a story coming out in the anthology, Sanquali. There's a excepert here, after the introduction: http://lettersfromtitan.com/2011/08/16/sanquali-excerpt/

* "Unpopular Opinion Bullet Points: True Blood Season 4 Edition:" http://renamok.tumblr.com/post/8933860629/unpopular-opinion-bullet-points-true-blood-season-4

I completely endorse these except for Bill vs. Eric. I say a plague on both their houses!

* Today, the Butt finally reached the level of maturity required to nap in the behind the computer mest. I'm proud of him. Sure, he's been a grown a** cat for years, but it takes him a very long time to learn social rules. Hector is pretty pissed though, as that's his favorite spot right now and there really isn't room for both of them.

* I'm still way behind on the internet. If it's important, PM me.
