Quietly entering his charge's room in the dead of the night, he shook her awake. "We must go."
Instantly awake, she climbed out of bed, "What is it? Did they complete the ritual?"
Packing clothes for the two of them, he replied, "Not quite. I stopped them from getting the exact one they wanted. However, I was spotted--so to speak--and now we must flee."
"But where?" she asked, helping him pack. At the tightening of the skin around his eyes, she said, "Surely you don't mean to go to her about this?"
"They
are trying to drag an alide zenar of hers to this plane," he said looking at his charge with a cocked eyebrow. "She should be made aware of this."
"And what of the zenar they did bring?" she asked, following him out of the palace. "What of that one?"
"She's not a zenar," he hesitated. "She's a...lorix."
"A lor--what did you do?!" she demanded.
Putting his hand over his charge's mouth to silence her, he said, "I will explain later."
Peering around the corner, he saw two guards dragging the summoned
lorix between them--she was unconscious. As soon as they reached the corner, he quickly lashed out and dispatched the guards by sinking a poisoned stiletto into the base of their necks. Picking up the lorix, he put her into his charge's arms. Muttering a quick transportation spell, he opened a portal to the one place where they would be safe--Gaia.
As he ushered his charge with the lorix through, he heard pounding of feet behind him. Turning, he saw the spellweavers barreling down the hall--throwing balls of ice, flame, and poison. Knowing they wouldn't follow him, he dove through the portal, biting back a cry of pain as one of the fireballs slammed into the small of his back.
"Father!" a pair of voices exclaimed.

"Holy crap their father is a Dark Elf?" a human's voice exclaimed.
