Okay. ^^ First thing's first: This guide is intended to explain the basic process of using the Exchange to earn gold. If you have less than 100,000 gold (100k) you will find it much more effective to simply play booty grab than to attempt to use the Exchange as a source of income. Additionally, you're going to be able to make more gold when you have more gold. As you're first starting out, I recommend playing Booty Grab while you wait for the stuff in your shop to sell.
Go to the Exchange forum and read through the selling threads looking for someone who's selling an item you can afford. Let's say that you find someone selling a Grunny. Look the item up in the Marketplace and check the Average Buy Price. Also check the lowest priced "Buy Now" Grunny.
These following numbers are examples. Always check the current numbers in the marketplace as they change often.
Average Buy Price: 116,418g
Lowest Buy Now Price: 127,500g
Take the lower of the two numbers and round down to the nearest 1,000 gold. So in this case, that'll be 116,000 gold. Then multiply that number by .98 and round the new number down to the nearest 1,000 as well.
116,000 x .98 = 113,000
Then you're going to decide how much of a profit margin you want. For a 100k item, you should be able to get around 10k profit. So...
113,000 - 10,000 = 103,000
That is the absolute most you should be willing to pay for a Grunny.
But start by offering the seller less than that. I'd recommend offering about 5,000 less than you're willing to pay (103,000 - 5,000 = 98,000 gold).
Post in the thread and say "98k for your Grunny?"
If they say "no" or "add" then respond by saying "100k?" If they tell you to add again, say "103k?" If they still say no or tell you to add, just say "No thank you. But please send me a trade if you change your mind. Thanks for your time!" (It's always a good idea to be polite. People would rather sell to someone who's being nice than to someone who's being a jerk.)
Let's assume, though, that the seller agrees to sell you his Grunny for 100,000 gold. You'll make the trade (be ABSOLUTELY sure to hover over his item to make sure that it is what it's supposed to be - there are lots of items that look very similar to one another and people use that fact to try to scam people.)
After the trade is complete, list your new Grunny in the Marketplace. Remember, the Lowest Buy Now Price is 127,500g. So list your Grunny for 127,495g. And when it sells, you'll get 124,945g (a 24,945g profit margin).
