Part 1: Discovery
I wonder how long it has been, since I opened my eyes and walked out of that water I was floating in. I also wonder what my name is and why there are scars all over my otherwise fine body, why was I only in drapes and a bikini? What happened to me before I woke up floating above the surface or even before that, what happened then? Have I always been this thing called a girl, can I speak? My mind is plagued with these and many more questions, I cannot even begin to explain the little bits of this world I do remember. The substance I was floating in is called water, of that I am certain but I do not know why.
My copper hair reaches my elbows and my eyes are an emerald color, my skin is pale almost like death. I wonder what awaits my small barely alive body in such an empty and fragile looking place, the land here seems like it could break at my very touch. I feel like I must search to find someone who knows me, even if I fall through the ground. I feel the wind blow and I feel a slight chill after starting to warm up, drying from being in the water and adjusting to the temperature of this place. I suddenly have the urge to know how old I am as I think about which direction I should go, the landscape appears to be nothing but the stream I was floating in and an open and empty field.
After several phases of the sun moving and me walking I pass people, something is very strange about them. I cannot see their faces or hear their voices but I can see the rest of them, something about them disturbs me very much. They are almost transparent enough to see right through, I think they are watching me as I pass them and head to the right of where I had been. I see more people like them and a few normal people, not one of them calls out to me or make a gesture of any sort of recognition. I wonder if this world is the world I am from, something seems very different but I have no idea what or why. I start to question my reality, is this all real or fake, am I alone or not?
It gets dark around me and the moon comes up but I still do not know anything new other than I have to sleep, tired or not. I find an abandoned shack and decide it is better than sleeping outside as the roof is still intact, I go inside. There is a fairly decent bed for a shack and no bugs, I lie down and quickly fall into a very tightly wound sleep. I wake up as soon as the sun is in the sky, I feel cold and I have no idea why it is so chilly. I leave the shack and start my journey once again, wondering if I would ever remember who I was or if anyone would recognize me.
I finally pass something that sets a strange sense of familiarity spiraling through the core of my being, an apple cart. I feel my stomach grumble and realize I am hungry, I open my mouth finally to test if I can speak. I ask the man if I can have an apple, he says I have to buy it. I look around for some spare coins and find a large gold one. I hand it to the man and ask how many apples I can get with it, he hands me a back pack full of them. I find more gold coins and several copper and silver ones, I place them in a small pouch I find and put it inside the back pack. I travel with my new finds, stopping to eat every so often.
A man walks out of a store in the next town; he shouts something I do not recognize and waves. At first I think maybe he was talking to me, then a girl comes running towards him and I keep walking. I find more and more gold and silver and copper along the road, I have about 20 gold pieces by now. A cat starts following me, so I stop to buy it a small chicken to devour. It looks weak so I buy the chicken and then after feeding it, I tear a piece of my drape off and make it a small blanket.
I make it to a town where the people look a bit like me and everyone gasps and points as if they have seen a ghost, I wonder what’s so weird about me showing that has them acting this way. A tall man approaches me and pats my head, a sign of recognition I realize. He smiles and wraps his arms around me, his warm chocolate hair and bronze eyes are welcoming. I relax for the first time in a long while, I feel like I know him. I start to ask questions like “who am I?” or “what am I?” and “why was I floating in a stream?” the man answers by saying it’s too early and that he has missed me.
“Violet is back, I wonder if this is an omen.” I hear a villager whispering to his neighbor.
“Did you hear that? She was floating in a stream; I wonder who would throw her into the river like that?” Another villager whispers to the woman next to her.
“Our Violet has returned! By the Gods this is a sign of good fortune! Let us celebrate!” An older man that appears to be the village elder shouts and everyone drops their discussions about me to cheer in agreement.
I find out the man that greeted me is named Saitos and he is my father, I also find out that I am 16 and that the clothes that I have on are from the next town over which has a lot of edgier clothing and that I have a boyfriend in that town.
