The Streets

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Salem and Derrich had run down the streets of the town, following the scent of the werewolf. The town was a funhouse of twists and turns and it was easy to get lost but the scent still lingered in the air. Much farther away from them, the creature formerly known as Virgil Mercury was stomping through the streets. Ever since he was born hes known he could control his transformation times regardless of a full moon. But about two years ago, he had begun transforming against his will every full moon. The creature had lost all reasoning and began to destroy some kiosks in the market. Perhaps it was Virgil doing this instead of his alternate form. He was enraged and could not control his outbursts. After he had reduced the kiosks to mere splinters of wood, he panted furiously and looked down the street. He could see a lone figure in the distance. The figure wore a rust orange coat with the sleeves rolled up to its elbows. He watched its left hand, which wore a gauntlet, brandish what Virgil thought was a chain. Dieter cracked the whip loudly. Virgil stared at him from the destroyed kiosks. He grew angrier with the whip cracking and howled loudly in Dieter's direction. He began to charge at him, running on all fours. Dieter stood ready with his stare fixated on the charging beast. Virgil reached
Dieter and raised his right arm, ready to strike him. The young vampire hunter rolled out of the way and turned around to the beast. He raised the whip chain and swung it at him when the beast also turned around. The whip slashed across the beast's face and some of his chest. The beast staggered back and felt a tiny trickle of his blood flowing from the small gash on his forehead and the large one on his chest. He grew angrier. Dieter reached into a pouch tied to his lower back and pulled out a small throwing dagger and readied to give it a toss. He flung the dagger and it soared through the air and landed in the beasts left side of his chest. He bled some more but quickly stopped. He used his massive claws to pry the dagger from his chest, then flung it down the street. Down the street behind the beast, Derrich and Salem ran. They were heading right for the beast. "Wait Dieter!! don't harm him!!" Derrich shouted. The beast had heard him and turned to face the new visitor. At that time Dieter retrieved his original dagger and produced two more from his pouch. He threw all three of them at the same time, sticking into the monster's back. The beast hunched over onto his claws and knees. " Dieter!!!" yelled Derrich. He and Salem had reached them both. " He is NOT to be harmed!!" Dieter finally stopped and looked at Derrich. "What?! The damned thing was going to lay waste to the whole town!!" He readied his whip to deal the final death blow to the werewolf. Salem pushed his arm up to stop him. Derrich had filled him in on the task at hand. " Get off me vampire!!" Dieter shouted at him. Salem didn't let go and kept him away from the werewolf. Derrich walked over to the monster who had passed out and now lay on its stomach unconscious. He removed the daggers and turned it over on its back. He pulled a little vial from his coat pocket and sprinkled some white substance onto its face. In a process that took about half a minute, the beast had shrunk to a normal human size and had morphed back into Virgil Mercury who still wore all the clothes he had been wearing when he transformed. He looked the same except for a small gash above his right eyebrow and a tear in his black shirt revealing the other scar that Dieter had given him.
Salem let go of Dieter's arm which then reluctantly put the whip back on his hip. They walked over to the unconscious Virgil. " He is the reason why we're here Dieter. That is why i didn't want you to harm him, he is our new addition to the team." Nytani flew from Salem's pocket and landed on Virgil's forehead. She looked down at him and poked him in his nose with the small needle she had. "....hmmm.....hes out cold...." Derrich shooed her away from him with his hand and lifted up Virgil's eye lid. The stare was blank, but he was breathing. " yes....thankfully Dieter didn't kill him......Salem, Dieter, carry him back to the inn. He should wake in the morning." Both Salem and Dieter picked him up by his arms and slung both of them over their shoulders. Virgil groaned slightley. " hm...or perhaps sooner then i thought." Derrich said quietly.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
