"What the ******** are you doing?!"
The wind tore Sora's words from her mouth as the oncoming storm smacked us. I was maybe a foot from where she was standing and it sounded like she was standing at the other end of a football field, inside of a tunnel, with cotton in her cheeks. Her face was beet red from either screaming or just being smacked repeatedly by a high wind.
"I can't hear you!" I screamed back, though I kind of could. Instead I hugged the metal hand rail tighter and turned back to the middle of the storm.
"You're insane! Insane! This is never going to work!"
Securing my right arm as tight around the rail as possible I let my left arm fly free into the whipping wind. The sheer force of it felt like it was going to get torn out of my shoulder.
"Don't ******** do it Kari! I swear to Satan if this doesn't kill you I will." Sora's screeching was becoming more frantic, and I could tell she was trying to pull herself closer to where I was.
Fighting back the urge to scream I focused as hard as I could on the open air in front of my reaching fingertips. "Lamia Liber Venite ad me, ostende mihi magicae*" There was a flash of light from around my neck and I felt the tug of the cross that dangled around my neck as it slithered out of my shirt and got caught by the wind. The chain tore and the necklace was caught by the breeze, whipping past my face and past my outstretched hand.
The magic inside of me pounded and intensified as the cross froze, despite the winds going crazy around it, and a familiar dark red book materialized beneath it. With the cross close by the book opened and the pages fluttered until they stopped at what looked like a spell. I didn't really know or care at this point whether it worked or not. I could feel the wind getting worse and my grip on the rail was getting weaker. If I didn't do something soon I don't know if we'd be able to stop it at all.
"Kari, let me do it. My magic is stronger..." Sora had managed to kreep even closer.
"No." I turned my head slightly to glance at her "We need your magic later to get to Mimi. I can handle this...trust me." Turning back to the wind I sucked in a breath and focused, feeling the magic inside of me humming. It wasn't anywhere near as powerful or as vast as Sora's could be, but it was there. The natural magical power of a vampire. It wasn't hard to see why Sora didn't want me doing this...I could end up exhausting my magic and then the functions they help run in my body would stop. Meaning that I could very likely die.
I couldn't think like that right now though.
Focusing on the books I started to chant the words inside "Fire to Air, hear my plea. From one element to another, I call to thee." The wind blasted against my face angrily "Fire to Air, calm the skies...release the fairy trapped inside." It wasn't the most eloquent of spells I'd give you that. I always felt they lost something when you translated them. I also kind of wasn't a big fan of all the rhyming but if it worked who was I to judge? I focused on sending out positivity, on relaxing the crazed storm.
As the last word got sucked up by the wind I could feel something pulling inside of me. Pulling my other arm back I hugged the rail as tight as I could and closed my eyes tight, not wanting to watch as the spell sucked at my magic like a leech. It would replenish itself over time...hopefully, but if too much was taken I wouldn't get the chance to gain it back.
I could feel myself getting weaker, but then again so was the wind. All around us the howling was dying down and the harsh icy knives didn't batter us anymore. The wind was dying down and when it finally calmed to a soft breeze.
As it died down it revealed Butterfly, curled up on the concrete grown.
Sora let go of the rail and ran to her, while I slumped to the ground in sheer exhaustion. It was a kind of tired I'd never felt before. It stretched down to my very core, like someone had raked my insides out.
"W-what happened?" I could hear Butterfly whisper. Sora was holding her up, brushing her hair from her face.
"Some a*****e put a spell on you...you kind of went beserk." I could practically hear Sora smiling, and didn't have to try very hard to picture the horrified look on Butterfly's face.
"OhmyGod! Did I hurt anyone?" She seemed to spot me then because she gave a little scream "Kari!" There was the sound of a soft scuffle like Butterfly wanted to move and Sora was trying to keep her still. Butterfly won out though cause she crawled over and touched my face. "Kari...did I do this? Are you okay."
"Y-yeah...just peachy." I yawned, I could barely lift my head. "I'm really sleepy now though..."
"I told you not to do the ******** spell."
"It was in my book..I could do whatever the hell I wanted with it." I wanted to stick my tongue out, decided I didn't have enough energy, and instead let Butterfuly pull my head onto her lap.
"What'd she do?"
"She used her magic to counteract the spell that was making you go crazy."
"Why didn't you do it?"
"Cause Mimi..." I looked up at Buttefly "You were bad...but..."
"Mimi is worse."
"...I can't fight Mimi. I'll hurt her..." I sighed, my eyes closing.
"Will she be okay?"
"Yeah, she just needs to recharge."
They continued to talk around me, but by then I'd stopped listening and tried to focus on sleep.
