The only glimpse the children of the valley caught of the inside of the infamous hilltop house on Crescent Drive was the little face in the window. There were rumors among the townspeople that it was a family of satanic worshipers who home schooled their children in the dark arts and exorcised themselves daily to stay cleansed of holy spirits. It was not at all surprising though, the way the 'family' acted. The curtains were always drawn, no light could ever be seen on in the early nighttime hours, and no one was ever seen leaving or entering the house. Those that were more reasonable determined that the house truly was vacant and that whatever face continued to show up over the years was simply one of the neighborhood children trying to keep the ghost story alive to make small city life tolerable.The reality of the situation was nearly impossible to believe, though. Sometimes even Anna could not believe that it was her own life.
The story of Rapunzel is a widely known story of a beautiful woman locked away in a tall tower with only her long hair and dreams of being rescued to keep her sane. That is until the day a prince rides up to the base of her tower and instantly falls in love with the beautiful woman, using her long hair to climb up to her prison and whisper sweet words to her until he is able to rescue her from the evil witch that keeps her inside. As unpredictable and strange as a fairy tale may seem, those stories made Anna's decades long predicament look like the dark inner workings of a serial killer's fantasy. She was the last of a long line of royalty. One of which was known throughout the world although none knew much about.
In the early twentieth century, Anna's brother and sisters were killed during the Russian Revolution leaving her as the sole heir to the Romanov throne. That day was the darkest of her life but it only got worse because of their long-kept secret. The Romanov family was that of a family of magic users. The third child born to a family of the royal blood line was the only one to display it though, making Anna the 'lucky' recipient. To be even more specific, she was a fairy. A direct child of Mother Earth with glittering, transparent wings of varying colors and eternal life. It was this flaw in the revolutionaries plan that had caused them to take drastic action as they had their own weapon on their side. A man by the name of Anton. A Romanov that had turned against his ultimate Creator and lost his wings. His magic turned sour and dark and with this he killed the other fairies and imprisoned Anna in the house. His intentions for her were currently unknown but Anna had all of time to wait. She had already waited nearly a century to hear his verdict although unfortunately she had seen him multiple times since she had become his caged bird. Anton came every month to check on her in the guise of a small animal or bug and mock her lack of freedom.
Anna tried to pass the time by watching the children of the town grow from her window and using her powers to extend her mind's eye outside of the barrier but it was not enough. She was growing anxious to spread her wings and could feel her sanity slipping out of her fingers like fine sand and all Anna could think of was her own prince charming coming to steal her away or Anton to come and simply end her life so that she could be reunited with her long lost family who she still mourned for.
