The Tale of the Black Flower.
She was the pitiful remnants of a house of that fell from the good graces of the current royal family.
Actually less than that since she was the illegitimate offspring of of a forbidden affair between her father a German general and her mother a French countess in title only. For the further shame brought upon the family her mother was exiled to the country to rise Ines on her own. Life was hard but they had each other until the new taxes set in effect. Cut off from the family and trying to keep their heads above water Ines was desperate to help her mother by any means. Knowing better than to resort to prostitution she disguised herself as a boy and found work as a fisherman's apprentice to an old man with poor sight and sent the little money she made back to her mother. Things were getting back on track until one night the ship was caught in a terrible storm! Her was employer was thrown off the boat and died at sea leaving her all alone. She couldn't go back empty handed and she was tired of fate kicking her in the teeth. The Black Flower bloomed that day.
