Thoughts about Fall of Anime 2013:

Beyond the Horizon: To be honest, I had really high hopes after seeing the PV. The action scenes were very fluid and had me very pumped to see this in a high school setting. But the first episode really disappointed, especially after I found out what studio its from: Kyoto Animation. True that they've gotten much better with their animation effects in terms of action and fluidity; which is totally evident in Free! when you watch the rippling water, and delving deeper into plots. But they've still got that streak in making slice-of-life type of animes like K-On! and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Overall, I give it a 6.5/10 for the first episode, and I probably won't be keeping track of it.

Strike the Blood: Yup, I saw an incoming harem on its movie poster and suspecting some fanservice coming my way soon enough. First opening scenes were mediocre and didn't get me pumped up as I wanted to after reading the synopsis that Yukina was an apprentice following a powerful vampire. Until I saw those action scenes, which really took me by surprise. Hooray for amazing action scenes! The characters are mediocre though, but hopefully I'll be able to brush that aside. Giving this a 7.5/10 and probably going to track it, only because of the action scenes.

Kill la Kill:

Log Horizon:

Galilei Donna:

Copellion:

How are Kill La Kill and Log Horizon working out for you, thus far?

The first few episodes of Kill La Kill disappointed me, despite all the hype that everyone gives the show. I loved the idea of a Fascist regime being used through a school system, but I didn't like how Mako went from: punky badass/strong character to getting beat up by the Generals to finding the uniform and kicking a**. I was afraid the story would turn into a generic "MC gets powerups every episode" so I ended up dropping the story. Not my cup of tea, even though it's made by the same studios who made Gurren Lagan. I might pick it up again, but it's highly unlikely.

Log Horizon was probably one of my favorite shows of the season. Unlike SAO, it actually delves into explaining about the RPG world they are trapped in and the mechanics of everything (like explaining about stats, the different classes, races, NPCs, etc.). Although it looks the same as SAO (with the concept for everyone being in a RPG world) the plot rapidly deviates from the same path as SAO starting around episode 15 and onwards as they uncover more facts/mysteries on how they arrived in the RPG. Only thing I disliked about the show was the last few episodes was centered around a love triangle that irritated me, so I dropped it and now waiting for season 2 this fall.

.... I should probably update this post because the Winter 2013/2014 has long past XD
