{ HISTORY } Whoever said money didn't buy happiness never had to grow up on the street

Thames was born to Drebit and Fey Prescott on a cold winter's night in Dolasmere, and his father couldn't have been happier. To have a boy to call his own! To raise him and teach him the family trade of shoe making was all Drebit could think about since marrying his wonderful wife. Unfortunately...there was a small piece of news that she waited a year to tell him: Thames wasn't his child. Drebit had spent a year now raising a child that wasn't his, and he couldn't hide his frustration. A year and a few days after Thames' birth, the boy was abandoned on the doorstep of an orphanage with nothing more than a blanket and a note with his name signed on it. To keep their secret hidden from friends and family alike, the two Prescotts silently packed their things and moved to Oceliweth to start over and live a life free from scorn.

Thames never understood why his parents left him behind, and over time the boy simply forgot about them. He apparently mattered little to them, so why would they matter at all to him? What did matter, however, was the Orphanage, a building that he grew to detest. He couldn't stand being confined by the cold brick walls that surrounded him and the awful woman in charge of it all, and complained constantly to the other orphans until one fateful afternoon when he reached his breaking point. Taking the blanket he was abandoned with years ago, Thames escaped out of the kitchen window, confident that he could strike out on his own and live a far better life than the one he had been forced into. Unfortunately for him, the young Prescott had to learn the hard way about how cruel the real world truly was.

Without a penny to his name, Thames was forced to scavenge what he could from discarded meals, taking to the shadows to keep from being found. While not quite the glamorous life he had imagined for himself, he was certainly getting by, and he preferred the cold night air to the prison walls he had once occupied. But no matter how much he scavenged, it was never enough. He did not want to survive, he wanted more than that. He wanted to taste food when it was fresh and hadn't been bitten into yet! The concept of a job hadn't quite crossed the young teen's mind, so he instead turned to a life of crime to satisfy his greed. Thames' first few attempts at stealing were...less than successful, as he couldn't quite summon up enough courage to swipe something from a merchant's cart. Instead, he would gawk at his goal, staring at it as though it would come to him on its own. It wasn't until he actually managed to swipe a piece of roasted chicken that he realized just how easy and thrilling stealing could be. Plus, it was justified in his case. After all, no one needed it more than he did, right? He was homeless! That first piece was just what Thames needed to get himself going.

Thames grew bolder with each heist, taking multiple food items on a single pass without getting caught, and often found himself with too much food at the end of the day. Yet when he woke up each morning, he found his excess food stash empty and white hairs sprinkled throughout the box. It would be many nights before he managed to catch the culprit, a stray kitten that had gotten quite used to the free food the blonde boy was leaving behind. It took time, but that cat grew to be Thames' best-and up to that point, only-friend, becoming the boy's accomplice. Together, they robbed people blind on the street without a hint of suspicion toward them. His cat, Dwemir, would act as a distraction as Prescott-now an adult-took anything and everything he considered valuable. He would pilfer chains, coin purses, necklaces and anything else Thames could get his nimble little fingers on before darting away, meeting up with Dwemir later to sort out their loot. For once, Thames knew what it was like to live! Selling his loot gave him the gold to regularly rent a room at a local inn, actually purchase hot mealsand still have gold to spare! But, as the two criminals soon found out, the high life couldn't last forever.

Word of Valgarde's intention of invading Dolasmere spread quickly, leading to the drafting of every able-bodied man in the city. Thames was no different, despite all of his protests against direct conflict. The man was handed a rapier, taught fundamental skills, then sent to the front lines to keep Valgarde from assimilating their city. The fighting was fierce and bloody, and many of the citizens he had grown used to and gotten to know-even if it was due to him stealing from them-were cut down around him. Toward the end of the war, as the numbers of the rebellion began to grow thin, a lone Thames was given the option by a foot soldier to either surrender or die like the other citizens. Fearing for his life, the man sheathed his thin blade and held his hands up to show that he had given up. Fate, however, had different plans for him.

Thames' open palm seemed to be a perfect target for a projectile that neither the man nor the soldier saw coming. The object struck his palm with such force that it sent him spiraling to the ground, yet once he hit the ground, his palm felt completely normal again. Prescott examined his palm to find a strange green design etched into his palm that he was certain wasn't there in the morning. Unfortunately for him, the soldier that had been attempting to capture him knew exactly what it was, and declared him an enemy of the state that absolutely needed to be put down. Thames attempted to scramble away, but all he could do was stumble and end up on his back each time. As the soldier raised his sword above his head to strike down the rune bearer, Thames held out his forearm in front of him to try and shield his face from most of the blow. As the blade closed in, the rune began to glow bright green, and a layer of thick quartz encompassed his arm, causing the blade to bounce harmlessly off of him. Both Thames and the soldier were silent at the spontaneous creation of the rocks, and watched as they cracked and fell apart soon after, chunks clattering against the street. Ignoring how suddenly worn out his entire body felt, he took the soldier's stunned silence as a chance to escape, disappearing down an alleyway and hiding out until nightfall.

With Dolasmere now under the control of the Valgarde empire, it became far more difficult to pick pockets, even with the abilities the rune granted him. Trying to combine what he could do on his own with the powers the rune gave him proved challenging, especially since the man's newly acquired rune was tipping people off to a law he hadn't even realized existed. In fact, Thames began to see "Wanted" posters with his face on them all over town, making it impossible to take more than a few steps out during the daytime without being chased around by armed guards and citizens alike. Left little choice, the two partners packed what they had left and stowed away in a trading caravan, helping themselves to the merchandise they deemed necessary. Little did they know that they were headed right for the epicenter of all of their troubles: the Valgarde Capital City.

{ OTHER INFO? } Thames keeps a small pouch filled with sand on his hip that he uses as an aid in fights-or escapes. He also has a pet cat named Dwemir that follows him around and acts as his partner in crime.
{ POSTING COLORS } His speech is in Olive Drab and his thoughts are in Orange Red.
