This is where I'll be putting angst filled entries about my love life, summaries of my day/weeks, avatar art, and basically anything else that doesn't have a place in my signature or profile. Hope you enjoy reading. :P 3/19/10
Mystery Skulls Live
It has occurred to me, more than once, that I forgot to post this on a public entry. So, more than a month later, here it is!

It ended up being three of my friends and me going, so it was like a girls night out. We had to drive out to Baytown to pick one of them up, then head into Houston, which makes a good hour/ hour and a half drive. So we were just talking about one thing after another, and I looked to the backseat. There was a hug wasp flying behind my friend's head. I told her about it and she started freaking and trying to fan it out of the window. It instead flew closer to my seat and I started freaking. My friend that was driving went ahead and pulled over at the next gas station, and we spent about 15 minutes taking turns trying to flick it out of the car. It finally crept out enough that I was able to pick it up with the protective layers of a chip bag and towel. That was the last trip it got to take.

I was surprised to find out the place we were going, was in an area of the city that I've passed many times before. Like, I know parts of Houston because when we were younger, that's where my sister had to go for her cancer treatments. It was in one of those places I'd never been to before, but always wondered about what was there.

The place that we went to is called the House of Blues, and it is located in an area that reminded me of an outdoor mall. We made it up to the third floor before we found out that we needed to go back to the second, where the end of the line was. So we stand in line and make it up to the third floor, get our IDs checked and everything. Then we see the list of things you can't bring in. Knives are on the list. One of my friends has not one or two, but three knives in her purse. We talk it over for a minute, but the line starts to move again. I'm a pretty fast walker, so I decide to be the one to go back down with her. We go as fast as we can down the steps, past the really long line on the second floor, down two blocks and across the street, to where the car is. We make it back up in good time, and are only a little sore, but our other friends have already made it through the line. Thank goodness we were able to explain what happened to one of the security guys, and he let us get in the front of the line.

We make it in and it's really cool. It's pretty dark, the most light is in the back and side walls, where there are all these paintings hung up. They have like, a bar on each wall, and a sitting area under the balcony. We hit the restrooms as soon as we got in, and I had to laugh, because my friend just had to take a picture of the attendant in there. Not used to seeing that kind of thing, you know.

The show doesn't start right away, but once it does, jeeze. I have never been on such a packed floor, with so many people pushing past you without even looking back. The smell is not exactly pleasant either, which makes no sense, especially if there are as many hygiene products in the men's restroom as there were in the ladies. To make matters worse, once the show starts, somebody decides to start smoking some weed on the floor, right behind my friend, who has asthma. They did decide to move along, though.

So we went there for a certain artist, this guy whose band name is Mystery Skulls. He's been described as sounding a little like Prince, and I have to agree with that statement. He was the second act, but it was worth the wait. I did feel a little out of place, until he came onto the stage. I sung along with every song I knew, and just wiggled and clapped in time to every song I didn't. My friend got a good laugh out of me, but I got her to dance with me, so it's all good. I kept trying to record a little bit of everything, but unfortunately, my camera batteries died, and I must have lost the second set without noticing. I'm still sore about that. I was ready to go after his performance, but we decided to stay a little longer so that my friend could recover some.

The trip back home probably took the longest, especially because we had to stop for a little while so the car could cool off, but it was fun because we kept each other up and laughing while quoting internet jokes. So, all in all, 10/10, would definitely do it again for the right reason. There is actually a flamenco festival coming up at the end of May, but I think it's just a little short notice.
