To her surprise, there was a small click and the lock unfastened. Arin glanced around nervously, but her self-absorbed colleagues paid no attention to what she was doing. Taking a deep breath, she pushed open the door and quickly slipped inside.
She shut the wooden door gently behind her, relaxing as she heard the lock click back into place. The room inside was quite narrow, maybe enough for two people side by side. Sturdy stone walls, like the rest of the building. No windows. One very dim lightbulb hovering near the entrance. In front of her were a large set of cold, stone stairs spiralling upwards to... somewhere.
Curious, Arin began to ascend. Maybe she should've brought Annie or Nik along before deciding to explore a random mysterious tower in the school. She could use someone to talk to, or the extra defence should another Sam situation arise. But there was no point in wasting time to recruit them now. This was the only lead she had on her task.
