mmm Ron dropped by food from California's, which is a super popular Italian sandwich shop in th' SIX. I haven't had food from there since ... well i used to go with a friend of mine, Danny. He was really the only person I used to go alone with. I'd gone one or two other times with a group of friends, which also always included Danny. He was one of those people in your life that you never really lose touch with. We had gone to the same schools but he was a few grades ahead. Long after school was over we would always get together and our friendship grew over the years. He died years ago and Id not had a California's veal sandwich since I'd been with and shared one with Danny, so just the act of having and eating this sandwich brought up a tonne of feelings and memories.
I dearly wish I had a photo of him. He always reminded me of ... or i guess I should now say whenever i see Robert DeNiro, I am reminded of Danny. The resemblance is uncanny. Perhaps this evening Ill watch one of his movies while I enjoy the Tiramisu (i always wait a couple of hours to eat my desert) and my Brio.
Yes, that sounds like a plan.
