Aspen. His name echoed in my thoughts as I wandered through the hallways towards the leftmost wing of the school, where the student council headquarters were situated between an array of history classrooms. Where a certain, nerdy individual and his group of friends spent their lunch breaks. No, Erin. I grit my teeth, even though nobody bothers to look in my direction anyway. This isn't the time. You're on a mission. A mission to ask about the supernatural, which happens to be a specialty of the student council president. Aspen? Yeah, okay. That's his name.
I needed to be fierce. I was here for answers. This was no time to start daydreaming about some guy I've known for my entire life, who suddenly became cute over the course of four months –
"Watch it!" I snapped out of my daze as I bump into a student exiting the club room. He frowns, readjusting his glasses. "Aren't you a senior? Since when do any of you guys care about student politics?"
The boy was blonde with curly hair. Tall, but as thin as a wire. Student council junior VP, Remi. Should I bother explaining to him that there's a dead body in the woods?
"Hey, Remi!" A cheerful voice called out from behind him. Another boy exited the club room, dragging with him a large black trash bag. "I got the..." he trailed off as he noticed me. "Uh, hi."
"Hi," I replied. This student was smaller in frame, with awfully self-bleached white hair. Yang, the tenth grade rep. Though his forced smile and wide eyes told me that this wasn't a typical day for them.
"So," I said, plastering on my best, friendly, 'fit in with the younger kids' smile. "What's in the bag?"
"A science project." Remi deadpanned, but he took a step to the side to purposely block my view.
"Yeah!" Yang exclaimed too excitedly, "Just cool, science stuff here. No animal parts for spell incantations or anything."
"Yang!" Remi hissed through his teeth. Though he forced a smile, I could see his shoulders deflate.
