Three people died in two wrecks within a span of about 20 minutes Thursday morning in Huntsville and just north of the city limits.
An Illinois man and another man, whose name was not immediately available, were killed in a two-vehicle accident on Alabama 53 about three miles north of Huntsville, a state trooper spokeswoman said.
Mitchell Cooper, 47, of Oquawka, Ill., died after the Ford F-150 pickup truck he was driving collided with a 1992 Acura around 11 a.m. on Alabama 53 at Douglas Road, troopers said.
Cooper was wearing a seat belt. His wife, Kathleen Cooper, 59, was taken to Huntsville Hospital, but her condition was not available Thursday night.
The driver of the Acura, who was not wearing a seat belt, was killed. Troopers did not release the name of the Acura driver Thursday night because of difficulties notifying his relatives.
