i came across english saying of "there no such thing as bad publicity". at first this puzzle me, sounded idiotic at first, but i thought. if a bloody unsolved murder mistery that involved movie scenes being stoloen remade so movie could be better involve the person who make movie, then the movie will be hit. but if person tells everyone you use diaper, then the world make fun of you. i also come across saying "no news is good news" this at first i did not understand. then i again picked at it. if your parents do not give news of how they are going at their vacation, and later you found they not able to because they die on way because of plane crash. same you could say if you never hear about murder who is stalking you,who is presumed dead, it is good. so more appropriate would be "news is news" please go here [i am going] Aiko_589 · Sat Jul 22, 2006 @ 05:22am · 3 Comments

	xd Those are strange phrases, now that I think about it. Your interpretations made me laugh. They are pretty close! "There is no such thing as bad publicity" generally refers to the idea that, if a celebrity is caught in a scandal (like he is caught sleeping with a woman not his wife), he will be all over the news, and people will run out to buy his movies/CDs/whatever just to know who he is. There's a line in the play, Phantom of the Opera, where the manager of the opera house says, "Gossip is worth its weight in gold." That is more or less the same meaning. And "No news is good news" refers to the joke that people only talk to each other when they need help with something. For example: When I was away I never called my parents because I was having a good time. But when something bad happened, I'd call and tell them about it. So no news from me meant that I was having a good time, which is good news. xd And I hope your petition makes it through. 	i think that what the phrase "no news is good news" means that all news one way or another is bad news for someone else. For example say something was written in the news paper good or bad somebody had to take thier time to write it and it probably took a long time. they probably missed valuable hours of their life that they could have spent with someone special. So all in all "no news is good new". and at the same time not knowing whats going on in the world around you can also hinder you. for example there was terrorist somewhere near you and you accidentally picked one up you thought that it was a regular person and had no idea. news helps ppl but it hurts just as much as i helps.
