Psycho Romanticist
When we pass through this world, will anything be left behind to show that we were here? Unlikely, but maybe you'll remember, something. Then perhaps it is not all in vain.
Purpose
If chance is the maker of flesh than the cries of murder and despair are simply the sounds of man worshipping his creator.

In the darkness memories came back to me. Whether I had really forgotten at my fall or simply pushed them away I do not know. Like flashes of lightning at night clips of my past flashed before my vision.

...black wings... created...

...only archangel... fall... falling...

...shunning holy light for the blood of a mortal rose...

...I was created for a purpose...

Purpose... what purpose? Did I care... perhaps. I told myself I didn't. I tried to believe that it didn't matter what had been. Still, I ventured into the evening light and began visiting Niko again, for whatever reason.

It had been months, and part of me was worried that he was gone. It was getting dark, the changing seasons took away the daylight hours we used to have, but I could still see the place Niko had kept for me.

It was shabbier, on closer inspection. I folded my dark wings and sat inside anyway. No one else was around, leaving me with wonder and worry. Had he been moved somewhere else? Hurt? I should have come sooner. After a few hours I gave up with a resigned sigh. Regret blossomed in my chest, and I felt like I had lost something important to me. Which, in essence, I had...

A short gasp made me turn. The sight would have brought tears to my eyes were I still capable of shedding them. He looked only a little older, but so much dirtier. Beaten.

"Rae...?" He asked softly. But unlike the last time I had disappeared, he did not approach me. That stung, but not more than the hurt look he gave me.

"Yeah Niko... it's me." Still he didn't move, but he looked me square in the eye. Hurt and pain, betrayal and anger shot from them, all born from and directed at me.

"You promised." He accused in a whisper. "You promised you'd never leave. You promised!" Louder with every step he took towards me, repeating the same thing over and over. Until he was right in front of me. He'd grown a few inches, and gotten stronger too, the punches he threw at me weren't as weak as they would have been months ago.

I stood and took it until he was done beating out his anger and fell against me, crying. "You promised..." Carefully I put my arms around him, and knelt on the floor of the roof with his trembling form against me.

"I didn't leave. I just..."

"It's okay." The boy let out a heaving sigh and pressed his face to my chest. "You came back. Thank you."
