The other night I was pondering on a certain thought: what makes someone do something so horrible to themselves, they want to inflict pain on their own body? And the conclusion I came to was this:
Everyone faces the same sort of pain. They go through something that is a shadow, a haunting memory: death, jail, divorce. Everyone has some inner deamon that haunts them. And everyone has something that plagues them. This gives a negative energy most people don't know how to cope with. So they try to find a way to get that energy out.
Most people don't know a possitive way. So they cut, or do drugs, or something equally horrible. But those who use art, or writting, or sports learn to transfer this negitive energy, into something good. Even a church or a youth group offers realease of this energy. But not everyone wants to try it.
Those people that can't fuel the energy, transfer it, or catch it, they cause themselves harm in their confusion. They can't find a way to make the pain stop, so they create more to try and cover it. Or they try to numb it... but the only escape, is through finding something to replace it.
Many people can't find a possitive way to fuel negative energy... but they will learn that the methods they try, will not work... I think it's so sad that they can't find a way to avoid doing something so horrible... because we all face the same deamons, but they show their fangs in different forms.
