The smoke rose into the air and spiraled away from the cigarette. Fred shifted slightly on the cold ledge of the porch. It hurt on days like this. Days when she slowly broke down and couldn't care anymore. She took another drag and watched the smoke leave her lips and dissipate into the darkness. The door opened behind her, she knew who it was before he even exited the doorway. Fred flicked the cigarette onto the sidewalk before facing him. His silence spoke of understanding and as he wrapped his arms around her, she broke down and let him in.
