Jean Claude Mastroianni, an award-winning fashion designer with a ready-to-wear studio, Jean Claude New York, in the Garment District, died Nov. 1 in a tragic accident in his home on Horatio St. He was 54.

He slipped and fell through the glass shower door and severed an artery, according to his brother Louis, who said the police and Medical Examiner’s Office ruled it a freak accident.

Born in Manhattan to Louis and Joann Mastroianni, he studied at Parsons School of Design and at Fashion Institute of Technology where he earned a design degree in 1975.

A member of the National Arts Club, he was a holder of the club’s Fashion Medal and of the Gold Thimble Award given by Absolut Vodka. In addition to running Jean Claude New York, at 218 W. 29th St., he taught courses at F.I.T. and at Parsons.

He designed costumes for Bill T. Jones Dance Company, American Ballet Theater and the Metropolitan Opera Company. He also did freelance design work for Ralph Lauren, Geoffrey Beane, Donna Karan and The Gap. His private clients included Madonna and Elizabeth Taylor.

In addition to his brother, of Washington D.C., his father, Louis, also survives.

The funeral will be a Perazzo Funeral Home, 199 Bleecker St., at 10:30 a.m. Fri. Nov. 17.

I will miss him and cherish my moments with him.... heart
