There's a few things you'll need to know about them first. Starting off with number
1: Got a really nice a** guitar for your first one? Cool. Don't expect it to be in perfect condition forever. The moment you bring it to a public place, something's gunna happen, and you're gunna be pissed. If you don't want major damage to your really nice one, go out and buy another guitar you can use for traveling, and leave that one at home. Or if that first ding is pretty bad, go buy another one you can leave at home, and travel with that one.
2: Strings can and will break. Strumming too hard or tightening it too much will cause strings to snap. And be warned: most of the time, it will snap on you, and it will hurt.
3: It helps to have someone who knows what they're doing around. Most of the time, just hitting strings sounds like crap, don't do it. Have some on just give you a little pointer on how to hit notes that no matter which order it's in, sound ok.
4: It takes a long time to get good, understand that BEFORE you get the guitar.
