School Work
~
Kai fell asleep eventually, finally home after resorting his papers. He continued his work for the next few days, completely occupied by his business. He wanted to see Tyson, but this time, he truly was too occupied to give it much thought. He was also a little embarrassed for having Tyson expose his weakness in a way. He was glad Tyson was so considerate of his pride, but it annoyed him all the same that Tyson could read him so easily. Perhaps it was his doctor skills, but Kai knew better, Tyson was just gifted at being accepting and forgiving. The more he thought about it, the more he wished he could see him again as his old friend and not a patient.
“Mr. Hiwatari!” his secretary interrupted his thoughts alarmingly. “I’m so sorry sir! You have a meeting in five minutes down the hall in room 205! Mr. Wills is waiting for you to discuss the new office agreements! I’m so sorry for informing you so late!”
Kai groaned and quickly gathered the work file out of his pile of paperwork that still needed sorting. He couldn’t believe that he hadn’t bothered to check that himself, but at least he was prepared. He tried to fix himself up as good as possible without a mirror. He headed for the door, but Kio came in before he could exit. She quickly fixed his tie and got rid of dust or hair that may have been on his vest. He took a fast pace down the hall as she finished wit his hair and made sure he was fine.
“Thank you Miss Tashi. Now go back to your desk and schedule yourself some vacation time.” He walked around the corner and backtracked. “As well as some for me.” She nodded and rushed back to her desk, a little fearful of what was meant by vacation time.
Kai stepped into the meeting room where his guests and co-workers were chatting away to themselves. They noticed his arrival as he made his way around to his seat.
“Mr. Wills.” Kai nodded and shook the man’s hand. This is what began a very long and exhausting meeting. Kai wasn’t out until 9 because he’d insisted on getting his way. He knew well not to give the employees too much power and he was still being fair to them. He was proud that he hadn’t let Mr. Wills tire him, but he was extremely tired now. He drove home and wanted nothing more than to take a hot bath and flop in his silky bed; business plans far away. He opened the door and hung his coat and scarf, took off his shoes and started heading up the stairs.
“Mr. Hiwatari, you have a guest,” his handyman said from the bottom of the steps.
“I’m exhausted Sean. Who is it?” Kai asked, not very curious to know who, but courteously had to know.
“Mr. Granger,” he replied. “Your doctor?”
“Geez! Takes you long enough to get home! I thought you wouldn’t come to see me so I came to you.” Tyson said, clearly annoyed.
“Granger, go home. Just let me sleep. I had a very long meeting.”
“Well since I wasn’t sure when you’d get here, I’ve been waiting pretty long- Hey Kai!” the tired businessman kept climbing the stairs, ignoring his guest. He got his robe from his room and went into the bathroom, starting up the bath. He rubbed his temples as Tyson stepped into the open bathroom after him.
“Kai Hiwatari! Pay attention will you!” he whined.
“Sean, make sleeping arrangements for my guest please,” Kai groaned.
“I can sleep here? Cool! Thanks Kai! I guess it does make up for make up for every time I got you to sleep over. Not that you were much trouble of course. So what do you have to drink around here?” Tyson asked, about to head out the bathroom.
“Fruit blends, milk, water…” Kai groaned. “Tea…”
“Haha. I meant drink as in something like vodka.”
“In small supply…” Kai replied, turning off the taps now that his bath was filled. “I wasn’t planning on any guests or get-togethers.”
“So… don’t get drunk by yourself?”

The King of Pop & the Pray of the Media

Due to Michael Jackson’s fame created by the popularity of the media, his reputation has been scarred by them, even to this day. The media has embraced him up to his highest point then turned everything around when things started getting old. Now what’s left of the King of Pop?

Michael Jackson’s Thriller Album, 1986

As Michael Jackson took the golden step into the famous spotlight of King of Pop, the media embraced him. As a member of the Jackson Five, his career as a singer began. He was the lead singer and dancer of the Jackson Five who were already famous, thus simplifying his path to fame. He has always been a star especially through family. He began his solo career at the age of 21 and the media gave him the name “King of Pop”. His first big hit that gave him his title was “Billie Jean”. The media raved and his “Thriller” album broke the record of Best Selling to this day. The public was stupefied by his original moves such as leaning foreword to a near impossible angle, the moon walk, and dancing in a group. Other artists followed his example of group dances after this, such as Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys. Continuing to top the music charts at #1, the media was very positive about him, especially for going around the world like an angel spreading the word of peace. His video “Black or White” was made on a world tour. He combined traditions from different parts of the world to bring a point of how even though everyone has differences, we’re all the same.

What turned the positive publicity into negative is when Michael Jackson began changing his appearance and later for being charged with child molestation. From that point on, the media thought of him as tender prey. At first, he changed his nose which gave him a star quality face. It wasn’t negitively viewed since his whole appearance changed from a teenage afro to a sexy greased back hairstyle. As time went by, his skin started getting very pale, which the media interpreted as “not being proud of his black heritage”, assuming that Michael Jackson was bleaching his skin when it was really a skin condition. They also began questioning why he really changed his nose for the same racist beliefs. The worst part was when people tried to get money from him by turning him in for child molestation which he was never guilty of. The stories go that he invited children over to his amusement park and had sleepovers. They watched Disney movies and such, but parents seem to have wilder imaginations than the kids. Witnesses there said that he never even touched the children in any inappropriate way, but parents easily saw it as a way to get money from the rich King of Pop.

Someone tattooed ‘Michael Jackson with a child screaming on his lap as he molests him’ on his leg.

At this point in time, Michael Jackson is a laughing stock, shunned and mocked into hiding. In movies like “Scary Movie 3” make fun of him which shows the way the media displays him. They especially mock his child molestation reputation, his voice, and his nose. In this movie, his nose falls off and he lures children in with his high pitched voice. They also dress him as a woman in other comedies because he resembles his sister Janett. Michael continues to grow paler and thinner, his cheeks sticking out. This isn't due to surgery, yet the public and media doubt his word. It’s part of his skin disease that this is happening and nothing more. Michael Jackson says that he could count on his one hand how many surgeries he’s had in his life. He is ashamed that his public believes that he isn’t a proud African American, a responsible father and a good man. All this turned around by bad publicity. He recently released his 25th anniversary “Thriller” album in order to regain some money to pay his debts like for his amusement park “Neverland”. He got a few different artists like Chris Brown to perform his songs as bonuses to get the album to sell for more. He lost the amusement park for a period of time, but seems to regain it as the money started coming back in. Michael Jackson continues to keep himself far from the media.

It is such a horrible fate to be hated and shunned by the very people who once loved you as the King of Pop. The media has squeezed this man like a sponge for all he was worth and now he lies dry, barely holding onto life. The King of Rock is dead. When will we lose the King of Pop to the cruel and heartless media that supplies stars with the worst part of their lives worldwide?

Sand Castle

Ten year old Tyson Granger sat in front of the principal’s desk. This fourth grade student was always getting in trouble. At least once a week he would be dismissed for not paying attention, not doing his homework, falling asleep and getting in small fights with other kids. He never gave an excuse to his behavior or blamed anyone but himself in a noble act… until this day.
“Kai shoved me in the sand castle me and Max built,” Tyson pouted angrily.
“Kai is a good student. Why would he do such a thing?” the principal asked.
“He’s a jerk…” he replied under his breath.
“Now Tyson, there’s no need for such language. Did he say he was sorry?”
“No…”
“So you got in a fight with him for this? It’s very unlike you to get in real fights,” she said calmly.
“I like play fighting, but Kai… made me really mad.”
“So you hit him back?”
“No… I kept missing…” Tyson replied, blushing in shame.
“So you didn’t hit him?”
“I shoved him back… one time… then he said I was a coward,” Tyson replied, staring at the floor.
“Well since you didn’t do any harm and no one was hurt, I’m going to let this slide,” she confirmed. “But next time I hear about you two fighting, you’ll both be right back here.”
***
Over the next few days, Tyson played with his friends Max, Ray and Kenny. Kai played alone and far from everyone.
“Kai, what are you doing here on your own? Don’t you want to play with your friends?” the supervising teacher asked.
“I don’t have friends...” he replied from the seat on the large roots of the tree.
“That’s not true. What about Tyson and the rest?”
They don’t want to play with me.”
“Why not?” she asked in concern.
“I… tripped the other day. I fell on Tyson and he got his face smushed in the castle they were making…” he replied. “Tyson was mad at me and pushed me. I didn’t tell him I tripped… so I said some mean stuff. He tried hitting me, but I’m faster than him… then you brought him to the principal’s office.”
