Recently, I've become quite interested in this show. Well, maybe not recently. I started watching the show from it's start. So for a good while now I've been hooked. I usually don't watch much TV. But this show has kept me interested. Probally due to it's nature. It's a story about people developing super powers. So of course my nerd side is going to dive right in.
This is one of those realistic take on having powers show. People are going to get them, they aren't always going to like them. It's pretty much the coming to grips story arcs you find in marvel comics. Some characters shun their gifts. Some use them for good, most don't know what they hell is happening.
Though I do like how people are getting linked together in this show. Things seem to be happening in the background. People are confused, but most now know that in the near future something bad is going to happen. So you see characters trying to figure things out to stop the end of things.
I've liked the show enough I've created a mule cosplay account for one of it's characters. "Future Hiro"
Hiro on the show has the ability to control time. He's really the only character happy about getting his powers. He's the only one really diving into trying to fit the "HERO" role. He's from Japan and loved video games, anime, american comics, and manga. He's also pretty good spirited but at the same time serious on saving things.
Future Hiro is a much older hiro who travels back in time. From a very different world to attempt to help better things. He's much more mature, and speaks perfect english. He tells another character to save this girl from being killed. Assumingly she's important. Though my guess is, it's not something that she will do. But more from her powers.
She has the power to heal from any wound. There is this other character, who had the power to understand how things work and to fix them. He went crazy since he wanted to be special, but had no obvious powers of his own. As his ability wasn't obvious.
So he found out, that if he was to kill other characters with powers. He could take their brains, and remove whatever gene causes the powers and take them for himself. So he's been going around killing off people to make himself god like.
Now at the end of the first half of the seasons story arc. Claire the girl who could heal was the target for his next attack. I'm guessing, she was important to save. So Sylar the crazy guy. Couldn't get her power, as if he had it. He really couldn't be stopped.
This show has been entertaining. There is a character who can paint the future, so he was insential to the shows story. As he helped the characters discover where to go to save the girl, while future hiro told peter to meet up with Issaac the painter to set things in motion.
Pretty much every main character is getting linked together one way or another. The story telling in this show is really well done. As I can't recall many shows that leave me wondering what this could mean and so on.
For instance, we see in a vision that the character Peter is going to explode. His powers is the ability to absorb the other characters powers around him, and use them himself. Like an empath, now is he being overloaded when to many powered people get around him and he explodes? Or does he take on the abilities of TED a character who can create radiation?
Future Hiro mentioned that Peter didn't look the same when they encountered. As he had not yet had a large scar. Now, present hiro is supposed to find this sacred sword to help control his powers. It's supposed to be an important item in the story. Now, if the sword is important. Maybe Hiro has to use it on peter to stop him from exploding? Which would explain the scar. Though of course, that theory of mine was around before we found out the swords legend. That it controlled this mad mans rage and made him be a great leader.
So given that legend, and the fact Hiro's powers have been acting strangely lately. Maybe all it's purpose is to help focus his powers into something that he has full control over.
I know that won't make sense to any of you who haven't watched this series. It's just an example of how the show can make you think.
If you haven't seen the show yet. I'd recommend it, head over to
http://www.nbc.com/Video/rewind/full_episodes/heroes.shtml
Now so far every single episode is online. But I'd recommend you start watching them quickly. I'm sure once the first season is completely over in five weeks. They'll take them down, so that people will buy the DVD set when they start making them.
