Woman
By JGD

She is unknowing,
sweet like a child
A whisper of winter,
on the hottest summer night

She will win you with a smile
When really she is fighting back her tears
She does her best to calm you
When really she is fighting her fears.

Some would call her a lady
Others would call her a sin
Time will always know her
Even as her life is about to begin

She will trust you with her secrets
and bury you in lies
You may do you best to avoid her
Yet it hurts to tell her goodbye

Can you name this lady?
She is called many things
We all have had chance to know her
before we're pulled away

You might call her mother
That is a face that some have seen
You might call her lover
and live with the mystery that it holds

In the end she is just a woman
Living like all woman do
She is the heart of her own history
and part of it may forever change you.

What can I say... I found a hint of inspiration last night.

I was once asked by a friend why I write poems and not stories. I could have told this friend how it was a poor use of my time to come up with a page worth of words to get my point across, when I can do the same thing simply by saying two short lines. Knowing my friend as I do, I offered the best example, one that is so easy to understand. "Tell me, when you're whispering sweet nothings and hoping for a kiss, would you like to have it in a few minuets or after a few hours?"

I think I made my point after that, because my friend stopped asking.

I'll give you a poem next time
